The story behind names...
Obsidian vineyard is named after a semi precious stone previously used by Maori tribes living on Waiheke Island. Weeping Sands owes is evocative title to a Maori legend. It is a literal translation to the name given to the beautiful beach close to Obsidian vineyard.

Good wines and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic presenter for wine tasting. Happy to go back.
Stopped by because our rental car spot recommended this winery and we are SO glad we did. It was easily our favorite spot on Waiheke! The staff was so friendly and actually educated us on the wine we were drinking. Great covered outdoor patio and even made a little puppy friend! The wine was excellent too.

A humble, rustic winery with chill vibes and good wine. We enjoyed sitting outside in the sun, right next to the vines. Deb was a delight, she looked after us and laughed at all our bad jokes she also gave us some fantastic Waiheke food recommendations. We'll be back!

One of the best wineries around. It's not trying to be anything it isn't. We love the rustic location & vibe over some of the flashy and pretentious wineries on the island.
There focus is wine, service and education. Obsidian is a must for wine lovers. All wines from the island, no exceptions. Some rarer grape varitals as well. I will be back. It's rustic so pack a picnic and enjoy some of Waiheke's best.
Our absolute favorite winery. We love the wines and the chilled ambiance at Obsidian. Service is always friendly & knowledgeable.
Not as fancy looking as the other vineyards in the area but the wines speak for themselves and are possibly the best you can get on the island. Very knowledgeable and friendly host for the tastings. Cellar door prices are very reasonable for the quality of wine too.
