One of, if not, the best hostel I have stayed in and I have been travelling around a lot. It's so comfy! It feels like a real home. Granted, it is very quiet. But that's fine for me. There are lots of books, games, and so many borchures on what to do, where to eat etc. And there is lots of free food, like cereal and spreads Nutella, jam, etc. And free tea and hot chocolate. And they give you bedding and a towel, which is not the case everywhere. And it's just so beautifully decorated! And clean too! Love it!
This is probably the best hostel I've ever been to! It felt more like a home than a hostel. The room was lovely, with so much character and personal touches that make staying somewhere that much better. Cereals, tea, coffee, and a fridge dedicated to free food were available to us for free, as well as veg from their veg patch! And towels were provided which is rare in hostels. Amazing views of the sea, and so many personal touches in the communal areas just made it a lovely hostel to spend time in. Heating in the rooms, curtains on the beds. Loved it all! I wish I could have stayed more than one night, it was truely marvelous.nThe bathroom was a little dated but It did the job and didnt bother me at all :, and yes it was a little odd without staff around but I had to call them at one point and they responded quickly and were very helpful!
A nice hostel in a good location but we agree with the previous reviewer that it is very strange to have no staff around and just self-check in with video camera monitoring. We understand that this may be due to staffing costs but we would welcome a hello from someone even once a day? That part seemed odd to us. It is so wonderful at a hostel to have connection with people who run it!
Staying at a backpackers I was expecting a rundown somewhat dirty place. What we got at Oamaru Backpackers was the complete opposite. Great room, amazing views of the water and sunrise. I enjoyed the self check-in as it made it easier than fiddling with keys when we were coming and going. Great stuff team
Nice place, well equipped, clean and pleasant view over the seanBut no one is here to welcome you in person. It's a kind of a self cashier backpackers...and that's really not the spirit of backpacking... More of an individualistic view of hostelling. Not sure I'll come again
