Story

NOURISHED FOR NIL

We are a non-profit FOOD RESCUE project located in Hastings, who rescue surplus food and redistribute it to the people within the Hawke’s Bay community, on the same day.
Our team is comprised of committed volunteers whose shared passion is reducing waste and helping others
Nourished for Nil will not discriminate, judge or label any community members who find themselves needing our service
The Nourished for Nil project aims to provide food to all people and families including those who do not qualify for assistance from other organisations

The idea of a Nourished for Nil was born after hearing of similar successful initiatives in Wellington and Palmerston North. Our team is committed to make this project just as successful in Hawke’s Bay according to our Mission Statement, Vision, Values & Goals.

"We are a food rescue organsition, which means food that was destined to be thrown out for a variety of reasons, gets a second chance! Did you know that 1 in 5 bags of food you purchase gets thrown out as food waste? Food rescue has positive social and environmental impacts because it contributes to social good by nourishing people, including those experiencing food insecurity, and provides broader social benefits including contributing to community building by linking food insecure people to wrap around services.In 2022 we merged with the local food banks in Hastings and Napier and now we make food parcels on order from social service agencies. This service can be accessed on referral through a recognised agency."
