Ok the weather was on the wet-side, but then we we're visiting a wetland!!!nInteresting history around the site which is always good to know, but the treat for us was actually the fairy houses and woodland art, which needs to be recognised just as much I feel. Well done all involved with this.
The Northbrook Wetlands was once the site of early European industry including; flax mills, a brewery, fellmongery and a tannery. In recent years restoration of this area has created an extensive wildlife and recreation reserve.nnThe rare heron, kingfisher and fantail birds are known to visitnnA track around the wetlands takes 30 minutes return. The track is smooth and ideal for prams and kids on bikes as well as being wheelchair accessible.nnThere are information boards, picnic stops and toilets along the way.
Northbrook Wetlands Just five minutes’ drive from the centre of Rangiora, what a quiet and peaceful, lovely place to spend time have a walk and sitting and listing to nature. Many ducks, Coots, Shags. There are clean public toilets here, car parking
Loved it but I think some of the trees etc need thinning. Most of the walking paths have thick hedge like vegetation either side and you have no view of what's beyond
Love this place, the history around it is very interest, specially the ponds that are purifying the water.
