Story

Het Nationaal park Tongariro ligt aan de zuidkant van het Taupomeer op het Noordereiland van Nieuw-Zeeland. Het park beslaat 796 km² en heeft drie actieve vulkanen: Mount Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe en Mount Tongariro. Deze werden in 1887 door opperhoofd Tukino Te Heuheu IV aan de regering van Nieuw-Zeeland geschonken. De vulkaan Ngauruhoe diende als decor voor Mount Doom in de film Lord of the Rings. Het park is verder bekend om zijn goede ski- en wandelmogelijkheden. Het was het eerste park in Nieuw-Zeeland dat vanwege zijn natuurlijke en culturele waarde als gemengd erfgoed op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO werd geplaatst. An awesome adventure across an amazing landscape. Make sure you prep and pack correctly. Very quick changes in weather here and there have been some horrible stories. Other than that it's an incredible hike and unforgettable!
Absolutely phenomenal. Once in a lifetime trip and I highly suggest you take the opportunity to do it if you're physically able. I took over 250 pictures so I'll leave that to the true professionals but will gladly say it was worth my while. Check the weather before going, we actually overpacked a little, but be prepared for a full day of walking! It took us just under 8 hours, intermediate fitness, late 30s - early 40s couple.
An amazing adventure for our little family of 4. We went there to celebrate our son's first birthday. It was my first snow trip as well. I absolutely loved it. The beauty took over the senses and left us mesmerized.
Enjoyed a hunting trip over the weekend with some mates, Renovations completed on Waihohonu hut on Friday, looks spectacular. Hut was nice and clean upon arrival, plenty of fire wood to keep you warm durning a cold winter's night
Taranaki falls walk. Walked from the Grand Chateau. Was an easy 1.5 hour walk on path the whole way. Magnificent scenery. Well worth the experience.
Amazing volcanoes! Loved the alpine crossing hike and taranki falls hike! The red crater and Mt. Ngaauruhoe and Mt. Ruapehu were mind blowing!! Was also able to see the milky way in the night!

Had an amazing time in this park. I went there during new year’s. It was quite hard for me. It was so unforgettable.
Amazing walking so close to an active volcano must do if your in the area, go on the skywaka and have lunch in the Restaurant when your at the top...breathtaking views
Epic walk, you can do it a lot quicker then recommended if you walk quickly, amazing views and changing terrain! Would recommend to all visitors but definitely choose the right weather, changes quickly up there
