About

Local West Auckland coffee company. Passionate about the entire process of coffee and creating a lasting impact in the lives of everyone we encounter

Story

ack in 2007, Jacob Parsons began Mt Atkinson Coffee with a big dream and legacy to fulfil. After losing his friend Andy, who had designed and built the initial coffee cart, Jacob had a vision to serve the best coffee in the world. So, he hit the West Auckland streets in the now iconic coffee cart.

2010 arrived and Jacob took a trip that would change his life. He travelled to a Gulu, a little town in Nothern Uganda, East Africa, to help build houses for war affected children, but while he was there he spent time exploring the coffee plantations. He met with lots of people growing great coffee, and heard stories of local coffee farmers who lacked the infrastructure to get a fair price for their product.

Jacob came back to New Zealand fired up with the dream to help these Ugandan coffee farmers through a direct trade partnership. So, later that year, he launched Mt Atkinson Coffee Roasters with the aim of providing the best coffee to local west Auckland cafes and to his own cart, while paying the coffee farmers a fair price for their beans.

“In everything we do, we transform lives”

Fast forward to today and Mt Atkinson is a coffee roaster that roasts beans on a daily basis to create what customers call “the best coffee in the world”.

We are now importing container loads of coffee from Uganda. All of this coffee directly contributes to community transformational initiatives in the Kanungu region of West Uganda.

The dream is that a new story would be written about the Kanungu region. That they would thrive as a result of our coffee purchasing.

The Mt Atkinson crew is headed by Jacob, Emily and the team, but it does not stop there. The crew also includes the coffee farmers in Uganda, the New Zealand cafes that serve Mt Atkinson coffee to their patrons, the customers who visit the coffee cart for a chat and a delicious coffee hit, those that embrace the coffee cart hire service at their events, and the people that buy via the online store.

And you could be part of the crew too!

“We love that serving coffee provides a space for a great connection to happen. Genuine connection is what the world needs. For us at Mt Atkinson, we are about connecting on every level, with our social media followers, with the people who buy and serve our coffee, and with the communities and people who grow and process the magic bean.”

Industrial style, the space is relatively large. The coffee style is distinct and three-dimensional. It seems that the menu only has bagels, which is very refreshing. It's a bit far from where I live, otherwise it's worth visiting often.
My husband and I love coming here. We regularly come for a game of chess, coffee and bagels! Quality beans + Food. We love meeting and bringing friends here for a catch up.
My friend and I had a delicious brunch here and sheltered from the rain, over several more coffees, before braving the dash to her car. Little did we know what was coming. Parking, was a lucky find directly by the front entrance and the staff were very friendly.Food: 5/5
Nice place you would not think it is a cafe from the out side. I like the simple modern decor. They are a coffee roaster and ice cream maker. Mocha was okay, lunch they only served bagels from Best Ugly, which is yummy. Ice cream was good. Parking is limited as no on street parking. Staff did not look like they were enjoying the work, not that friendly, otherwise it would have been a five stars.
From the interior design perspective, the cafe displays the design principles by the utilizing the design elements well. The pine boards has been applied to make lines, Shape, form & patterns neatly. The contract of textures are reflected by the old steel beach, the old barn concrete floor, the natural wood, the plants leaves and even the rug coffee bags etc. The natural light came into through the old high celling vertical windows, which makes the paint and wood pattern look beautiful. Apply green theme are shown obviously into the toilet by bushy wallpaper and green paint. The open board window are connected the roasted coffee space and hospitality area well. There is good balance between Negative space and positive space. In general, all the materials & design do help transfer this very old barn into impressive modern cafe with its personality.
This place is perfect for bringing kids for a Sunday brunch. The food is healthy and delicious and there's a fabulous play area for kids. Excellent coffee, and an old school New Zealand caravan kitted out as a playroom. Really good atmosphere and friendly service. Their ice cream is out of this world and they are very generous with it! We couldn't finish our two scoops..!
Just tried through uber eats - amazing bagels, great coffee and the best chips! Earth friendly packaging too. Definitely our new favourite. Next time will pop in store.
Good coffee good place to study and work pleasant service nice environment spacious no clutter minimalistic industrial look yet inviting the coffee is quite strong so it stands out from other run of the mill coffee and they're off and the ice cream is absolutely delicious the ambient music is good not too loud just right
Great coffee - nice food the only draw back is the right carparki g but hey its worth it for the coffee!
This place has got a cool industrial look. An interesting nice place to have your weekend breakfast/brunch. They have a decent selection of bagels. Food wise I rate them 3.5 I had ordered the New Yorker bagel with sesame bun. The bun was pretty good but it didn't come with any cream cheese! My husband ordered "whip-it" that also with no cream cheese : bagel without cream cheese is no fun! But I must admit once I made my peace with the absence of cream cheese, it wasn't all that bad. The coffee & got chocolate is good, nothing extraordinary. Would go back to try the other bagels.
