Mosgiel Playcentre is an amazing environment where parents and our experienced teaching team play and learn along-side our children each session.
Play Centre is different from other Early childhood environments because, alongside our amazing teachers, it is Parent led.
Our parents work together with the teaching team in all aspects of running the centre including our fun, busy and amazing sessions!
On each session we have parent help/s who work with the teaching team during the session and ensure the smooth running of each session.
All parents of children under 2 ½ stay during the session, playing along-side the children, spending quality time both with their own children but also playing and discovering with all the children.
Once your child turns 2 ½ you are welcome to leave them during the session when you are not on parent help but many parents choose to stay every session even with older children.
There are many opportunities to play and learn with the little ones while your older children are engaged in Big Kid Play!
Most Play Centre parents describe the environment as a family – we work together with our children’s learning and playing, also running the centre and all the aspects that are involved to ensure the smooth running of the centre and so that our children have access to as many resources and experiences as possible.
At Play Centre we believe that you are your child’s first teacher. In keeping with that we offer free parent education, including an NZQA recognised programme, for all parents who wish to take advantage of this.
Play Centre is an amazing environment for any parent who wants to spend quality time in an early learning environment with their child but also build life-long friendships with other Play Centre families. Along with this you will be learning new skills not just around early childhood and your child but also with amazing team building activities like fundraising & family events.
From an educational point Play Centre works with our parents so that our children are free to develop some of the following skills;
The ability to play, to have fun, to be engaged in the world around them and to be learners
Social skills with children and adults
Self-help skills
Group skills working with other children and adults
The ability to concentrate on something, and to be absorbed
Perseverance and problem solving skills
To explore the world around them with all the senses
The ability to express themselves creatively
That their interests are valued and encouraged through free play
Increasing independence at their own rate
To respect others and that they in turn are respected
Foundations for reading, mathematics, and physical skills through play
We warmly welcome all families to contact us or come and see us during a session to visit and discover if our Play Centre environment is for you and your family.
