Professional Guitar Lessons
Guitar lessons are for any age. Classes range from beginners to more advanced levels. The emphasis is on learning to understand all aspects of music and applying this to the guitar in both solo and group playing. A range of musical styles will be learnt, with a focus on teaching students how to teach themselves.
My name is Alister Morrison I have been playing music for 31 years, and teaching guitar for 23 years in schools. I teach classical, jazz, blues and rock, electric guitar, classical and acoustic guitar and electric bass guitar. I have been teaching NCEA level one, two and three, Cambridge IGCSE, AS-levels, and A-levels performances in 4 local colleges for the last 13 years.
I have created a school which allows musicians to learn in a relaxed way with very successful results.
The Teachers are Robert, Sarah and Owen.
Robert has been playing guitar for 9 years. At Pakuranga College he achieved excellence in NCEA college performances. He has completed his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at Auckland University and is currently working towards his honours degree. He is actively involved in three bands which regularly perform. He has been teaching privately for 5 years.
Owen has been playing guitar for 15 years. At Pakuranga College he achieved excellence in NCEA college performances. He has completed a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance at the University of Auckland. Owen has many years experience performing in bands. He has worked as a guitar teacher at Kings College for 3yrs and for 2yrs at Glendowe College. Currently he is teaching privately and has done so for the last 6 years.
All three teachers play and teach many different styles and are equally capable.
The guitar is a versatile instrument. Many of my pupils are successful musicians in a number of fields, both professional and amateur. Ultimately it makes little difference whether your ambition is to play recitals, salon music, pop, blues, jazz or rock music, or just to play beautiful music at home, there are some basic skills you need to achieve these aims.
Of course, it goes without saying that music lessons are only worthwhile if the pupil practises between lessons. A disciplined but relaxed practice schedule that is maintained at home and supported by family and friends enables progress.
