I was delighted to find this shop on a trip to Wellington. It is full of high end products for male grooming. I bought an investment quality brush made by an English company which has been in business since the 18c. And it came with very helpful advice from the shop owner about caring for my beard with regular brushing. Wellington you have a treasure here! There's nothing remotely similar here in Auckland.
Best beard barber in NZ, if not the pacific, in fact award winning. Great quality old world furnitures and gifts, with a big dose of opinion available. Don’t mistaken this store for the neighboring hair cutting business which are not related.
Had the most horrible experience here. My hearing is very bad and I walked in, said hello and smiled to the lady behind the counter and I started browsing the Christmas selection while I was trying to call my mum. There was no one else in the store, and suddenly the woman behind the counter starts screaming at me at the top of her lungs, verbally assaulting me and saying I disrespected her, and that I “don’t get to just come into the store and be on my phone”. I didn’t realise that it was apparently a universal rule that you can’t be on your phone in public. Suffice to say I was very confused and taken aback, especially considering our exchange had consisted of “Hello”. I didn’t catch too many details of what she was screaming at me about because my hearing is bad, but she really upset me and took me off guard and I left immediately. I will never be going back and highly recommend to everyone not to go there! Based on what I’m reading of other peoples reviews, a lot of people have had a bad experience with this same woman and I’m surprised at the owners that she hasn’t been fired. Disappointing.
Didn’t buy anything or get a cut, but found the shop fascinating. Lovely paintings of Wellington and nautical themes. Found the owner very friendly and interesting to talk to.
Wellington is lucky to have a shop like this. Monsignor's has the finest selection of mirrors, combs and brushes I have seen in New Zealand and the equal of what one finds in St. James's, London, or Manhattan. With Christmas on the way it is the perfect place to find cufflinks, small leather goods or smoking related items for gifting. And, the shop window changes regularly and marks significant events--a true gift to the community. It would be nice to have a similar business in Auckland.
Absolutely disgusted behaviour from the lady working the Barber shop. Came in to have haircut and possible purchase of a few items. I was told to leave immediately for an unknown reason, when asked why she replies she didn't like the look of me. Racism at its finest.
Great service from any aspect, also lots of cool staff on display also for sale. I just like going back. We need more shops like this or should i say more dedicated owners like Alison. Hope rhe other people realise it and keep visiting as it is not easy surviving in the retail world these days. Best of luck to the shop and its owner
Needed laundry service and the lady washed, dried and folded my laundry very neatly. I received my laundry in a box she provided. She saw my torn laundry bag and offered to mend it for free. Excellent customer service and the lady is a lovely sweetheart! Definitely recommend!
Popped in looking for a Safety Razor, had been researching online beforehand NZ Sites and was looking for a intro/budget razor to start with so I knew it was possible to find them for around $20, the lady there said yes we have X amount with prices starting from around $90, I asked about budget ones mentioning the ones I had seen online and she was very dismissive - saying i should 'buy it online then'. Very rude and unwelcoming.
Found two treasures during the closing down sale. Great stories behind the objects from a long time Wellingtonian.
