This was a great experience. Highly recommend! This is a family owned business. They gave a lot of information about the Māori culture. The demonstrations were amazing and the food was good. You could also do a little bush walk after and learn about the trees, houses and see some glow worms. Everyone was kind and welcoming.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
100% recommend this place as somewhere to visit. Jason was an exceptional host! You literally felt like apart of the family when you entered! Performances were incredible and so professional! As an Aussie I can’t believe how little I knew about the cousins across the ditch! Food was unbelievable, Jason answered all questions which was awesome because we had a few! The whole experience was just fantastic! Go here you won’t regret it.
An absolute dream. Ethereal, surreal, scintillating, spiritual and all feelings in between. Culturally quenched and grateful to have experienced Maori history on NYE with family around. Meticulously put together, the experience encapsulates their history, including live performances, haka, food, life today & fun facts we never knew of. A MUST DO for anyone visiting New Zealand. It's their zealous energy that is infectious and reminds us of the beauty this country holds.
A once in a lifetime experience. An evening of wholesome food, cultural learning and being entertained. The tribe are so welcoming and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend this experience. * for anyone looking this information, there is parking; you do go for a short walk around the village in the dark so wear comfortable shoes and a coat if it's cold. Inside there are fires and heaters so it's very warm! If you aren't sure whether to book this experience or not...BOOK it, you'll love it!!
We absolutely loved this place. All the guides were fantastic and the experience was so special. Lots of singing, dancing, delicious food, the little nature walks, all great. We learnt so much about Māori culture. Highly recommend!
We booked the 3 hours dinner buffet and cultural performance tour and it was great! There was a small issue as the driver failed to pick us up but the staff immediately resolved it, 10/10 customer service! Highly recommend this if you're traveling to RotoruaVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
What a wonderful experience learning all about the Maori culture. The Hangi meal we shared in was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Such lovely people and a great time out whilst staying in Rotorua.
Great time learning and seeing the Maori customs, people, traditions, food. I thought everything was great. The only thing that could have been better was the weather. I highly, highly recommend.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We had an interesting time at the Mitai Maori Village. It was a great experience and the hosts were very nice and welcoming. It felt like we were welcomed to the village by a big family of Maori. The amount we paid might seem pricey but was very worthwhile because we got to experience so many different activities. Our preferences for the activities are in the following order: 1. After dinner - Cultural Traditional Maori dance and welcome. 2. Warrior Paddling down the river 3. Hangi unveiling 4. After performance walk to the Maori village 5. Buffet dinner 6. Glow worm walk Reasons why they were ordered as above: 1. Traditional Maori performance - Emcee Chef and team were very engaging and the performance was clear and easy to follow. The team made it easy for visitors like us to relate to what and why Maori lived that way. 2. Warrior Padding down the river - We got to experience how it looked like when warriors enter hostile or new territories. 3. Hangi Unveiling - We got to see how it would look like to cook the food underground. Not 100% as it was traditionally but was able to image how they did it. 4. After performance walk - The walk was interesting and we got to see how the villager would have lived many years ago. 5. Buffet dinner - was alright. The best 2 dishes were lamb and chowder, but everything else were quite normal. Maybe a little spice or salt would go a long way. 6. Glow Worm Walk - We got to see some glow worms, but unfortunately not many at all, we can count the number of glow worms we saw.
This was an unbelievable experience. The food was delicious and so much to eat. The knowledge, show, glow worms and walk, made this experience unique and highly recommend. They were so very organised, impressive.
