Well worth visiting if passing through. There's an interesting exhibition about Methven during the world wars ...and when we visited..and exhibition by local artists. Larger space than it appears from outside! Very welcoming with space to sit down and enjoy the coffee from the van outside.
The Methven Information and Heritage Centre is a first point of call for visitors to the area wanting to find out more about the region as well as what’s on and what to do. The friendly staff were helpful and informative. Local art is displayed thoughout the centre adding to the cultural experience. The Hall of Memories is a free of charge walk down memory lane of Methven’s contribution to World Wars 1 & 2. A main feature for tourists is the NZ Agricultural Encounter. A ticket only look at the rural community that makes up Methven and the wider mid Canterbury region. Points of interest include the inner workings of a cows digestive system and how they produce milk, resources of the region and the landscape. A full scale climb aboard Header gives you a real feel for farming life. The facility also boasts full conference facilities catering to corporate and interest groups, trade shows and productions and includes a Function and Boardroom with a fully equipped kitchen. The Methven Heritage Centre definitely delivered more than we were initially expecting and is well worth a visit.
The centre was still open around 3:30pm Saturday in end July 2023 during snow season . No guest and only some staffs worked , the theaters were closed , memorial show room was open . Very quite and warm place . Some old memorial photos were exhibited along the corridor . You might walked through the centre in twenty minutes .
Super friendly staff both for i-site and the shuttle bus that goes to Mt hutt. Parking available at rear or off street. This is also the first stop of the bus that goes up to Mt hutt.
Great coffe from coffe van
We had the most helpful person the days our group were there. We needed assistance with accommodation in Methven and on-going. We were helped by a wonderful lady, Wendy ! She was patient, gave us detailed information on where we were travelling too, and rang ahead for us. I think we bombarded her with questions for 1/2 day. 5 Star service Wendy.
The lady there was extremely helpful when we enquired about walks and we ended up going on the Enchanted walk which we really enjoyed and going to several other walks that she suggested.Lovely small town with a nice vibe.
Good local information from the lady at the counter. She told us where to download more. However it was a bit rushed and she made me feel to stop asking questions, rather then being enthusiastic about our visit of the region.
Good source of info. Look at the changing art exhibitions and good for a book swap.
Ok but felt like we were made to feel we were a health risk been there.Museum was awesum though and full of information
