Matapouri Bay Store

Awesome ice cream stop general store, haven’t tried the fish & chips. Awesome friendly young lady staffer doing the ice creams was all good. Cool tables outside but pretty close to the road, lots of goons showing off to the cows & sheep cause there ain’t much else up here to try to look cool in front of! Mind the tamariki, Awesome little store 3rd time here this year, happy. Easy parking, accessible, main road can’t miss it.

We came just before Christmas , it was busy but very friendly staff. The fish and chips were excellent, choose the snapper and you can’t go wrong. A global standard of fish and chips here at this cute little store! We took ours to the nearby beach and had a wonderful afternoon. Thanks everyone at Matapouri Bag store for making our holiday better!!

Well stocked, scoop ice-creams, freshly made toasted sandwiches and takeaways to give you an idea. Really convenient for the location. Friendly staff.

Busy hot afternoon fish and chips, had to wait but was mentioned by supper friendly staff. Great food, well cooked chips.

Was so looking forward to fresh fish and chips. There wasn’t much choice of fish on offer, as they were flat out Christmas period. The staff were pleasant, but the fish, oysters, and scallops were heavily battered and dripping in oil. So much so that my sister’s top is probably stained for good the oil oozed out of the parcel of food before we could walk the 200 ? metres back to the beach. Haven’t had kiwi fish and chips for a long, long time, and now feel a bit ill from the grease. Disappointed.

Since it was a beautiful northland day 15th March 2022. Thought we'd take a drive to the beach. We originally stopped at the Tutukaka Marina and dunked our feet into the warm water but we decided to carry onto Matapouri Bay and stopped at Matapouri Store for some "Fish and Chips" for lunch. We ended up getting Chicken, Avocado, Bacon Burger and The Works Burger with a scoop of Chips $3. Each Burger was worth the $12.

No fish available, burgers and chips were good - an hour wait though, be prepared to wait during the summer season :

Great fish and chips. The mussel fritter was also very good. We had more than enough and enjoyed eating it in our car looking over the bay.

Closest conveniance store in Matapouri and they have the essentials for a rather hefty price. As you can see in the photo of the menu, hot food is QUITE expensive but that is predictable in a rather rural area.
