Story

Massey Pony Club is a 48 acre property on Glen Rd, just minutes away from Henderson, Massey, Ranui and Swanson. It begins the green belt that wraps itself around the Waitakere Ranges. We have a long term lease from Waitakere City Council that has another 15 years to run with the automatic right of renewal. Our Pony Club is divided into two parts the majority on a 20 year lease, and a small part of our land on a shared lease with other council activities.

With a river running through the middle of the land we have a wonderful flat paddock on both sides. These paddocks are where our pony club rallies take place meaning on a Tuesday night if you visit you can see some 60 children all in supervised groups being taught the wonders of equestrian discipline.

Massey Pony Club has a wonderful sand and rubber surface all weather Arena. A full X Country facility which spans from Open – Pre Intro and in the Summer months a good selection of show jumping grids and courses are permanently up and available for use. Our grounds are usually open from mid September to late May dependent on ground conditions.

Our Pony Club rallies teach the New Zealand Pony Club curriculum and are run on a Tuesday night from 6.00 – 8.00. They are available for up to 21 years olds and for those who wish to continue with certificates after this 25. We have 9 Instructors who teach from Beginner, to those working towards there A & H exams (these exams are the highest recognised exams run by the NZPCA and are transferable to the New Zealand unit standard tests for Equestrian studies). We also offer all our members extra dressage, show jumping, mounted games and X Country instruction from some of New Zealand’s most recognised Instructors. Our facilities are used for the schooling of horses and riders at all levels. It is our vision for Massey Pony Club to become one of the leading schooling equestrian centres in the country.
We pride ourselves at Massey on being a friendly club, making everyone feel welcome and trying to include our many and varied members in as many of our activities as possible. We work as a team to run our events, we will be holding 2 ODE’s and 2 ribbon day’s this year as per the availability of events from the wider Waitemata Rodney Area.

Our members have over the last 10 years and before always represented us well in all major competitions, our youth help to make up all West Auckaland District teams and often our riders have been selected to represent us in the greater Waitemata Rodney Zone at National Pony Club Events in all disciplines.

We have a membership of 64 youth and 40 adult riders with many associated non riding members. Our Adult ride meets on a Wednesday night and caters for riders of all levels. We are a friendly united club who enjoy welcoming new members into our midst.

Every year we hold an Easter camp that is open to both Adult and Youth riders and is usually held at Woodhill Forest for 4 – 5 days, these are wonderful and looked forward to by old and young alike. They are completely non structured camps and are an opportunity for everyone to participate in a trekking, beach and endurance riding. We all eat together and have a famous Burma Trail, skit night and have recently added a singing night to our evenings. It is usually during these camps that we have an all members welcome final BBQ of the season at the Parakai Hot Pools.
