Take time out & enjoy a quiet sail ambling through NZ’s best marine playground. We encourage you to be involved in your own special sailing experience.
It would be a shame to travel around the world (or around New Zealand), to come to the Bay of Islands, and not actually visit the islands themselves.
That is like having a lovely jewellry box set in front of you, you look at it, say its lovely but never open it up and see the beautiful gemstones inside. Get out on the water and handle those gems.
The Vessel:
The 39ft steel ketch "Manu Nui" was designed by New Zealander Dennis Ganley. It was professionally built by John Ward's team at Vulcan Yachts in Auckland and first launched at Opua in the Bay of Islands in 2005.
With a wardrobe of 6 sails there's plenty to play with as we can have 4 in use in most winds.
Powered by a 28hp 3 cylinder Yanmar when the sails aren't in use, and that's only when we really have to.
"Manu Nui" has 2 small double berths and one of the lounge seats in the saloon pulls out to become a third berth.
THE CREW:
Jos n Larry started chartering in the Bay of Islands in the 1985 / 1986 season.
Larry qualified as a Commercial Launch Master in 1987.
Since then we have operated Water Taxi services, Fishing & Diving Charters, Sightseeing, Hole In The Rock cruises and have been involved in yacht racing since 1997.
