I don’t know why this fish n chip shop only has 3.9 stars. We really enjoyed the fish n chips and the prices are very reasonable. The guys running the shop were super friendly and our food was served hot out of the fryer about 10 minutes after ordering. Giving 5 stars in an attempt to bring their rating up, because they definitely deserve it. If you’re in Te Anau, I highly suggest stopping by!
Really nice fish but it can be slow when they are busy. They are open late during summer so it's a good place to grab some food to take to the lakefront. The prices are high because it's a tourist spot. For example it's $1 for some sauce. They have EFTPOS available if you don't have cash.
More a snack bar, but with good, low prized food. We had two kinds of prawns and the greenlips and espresso. All tasted good, only afterwards a little bit too much garlic, but that's only us.
One of the best fish and chips meals I've ever had. I would definitely have it again.
This is literally the best fish and chips I have ever had. Better than anything I had in the UK and better than anything I have had in the US. Fish is flavorful to the point where you could eat it without sauce. Perfectly cooked to crispy perfection. Every single chip was perfectly cooked. Crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. Not a single one in the bunch. My friend and I were in Te Anau for 3 days and every night we just went back here because we couldn't get enough. I'm hopefully traveling New Zealand again in February 2021 and I'm coming here immediately if they are open.
Hot dog was very nice, meat pattie average, they don't do crumbed fish so had the battered which was terrible, thick batter and gooey. Chips were brown, dry and over cooked. Overall a disappointment.
It was a great place to just get a quick bite. We got the double combo 2 fish and chips + drink for $24 NZ dollars. The ambiance is plain, and the service is very diner-ish. But if you want affordable and fast fish and chips, come to this place! Would recommend for anyone stopping by Te Anau.
Great fish n chips. Quick, tasty and affordable. Nice option to dine in on a rainy day and very relaxing spot. Really enjoyed our meal.
Worst fish and chips in NZ. Had the 'crumbed hoki'. It looked like minced up fish that had been moulded into a fish shape, much like a poor quality frozen fish you would buy from a supermarket to heat up in the oven at home. The fish itself taste like it had not had a good life and was only a bit more paletable with ketchup which taste only slightly better. I should have gone for the cod perhaps, but at 9 bucks it was rather pricey. The chips were just ok. Staff were friendly enough however I definitely would not recommend this place overall. Maybe they don't care as their customers are so transient and there is a lack of competition? What a shame.
Don't be mistaken by the looks of the shop. Very very good blue cod fish and chips. By far the best I've had in Australia and UK. For those worried about health and oil, fear not as they use healthy rice bran oil and your food doesnt reeked of oil at all.
