This place is so much fun to eat at. I love that it can be a sharing experience I just went with my partner and we picked 2 things off the menu each. Everything was delicious and great, I recommend trying the prawns. Service here is so good, really fast and they look after you so well. This is a favourite for us
We had the most phenomenal dinner and service at Macau, so much so that we went back the following night for dinner again. Every course was a taste sensation, the service was faultless and the cocktails were perfect. I could not recommend them highly enough
Started off with some mocktails, they were all good. Ordered the fried chicken bao bun, tuna tataki, duck pancakes and pork belly. The quality between the dishes was not very consistent. I found the pork belly to be tough and not really tasty. The bao bun was mediocre for the price. Tuna tataki was also nice but average. Duck pancakes were the only item we really enjoyed. The quality of service was also average from the waiter. Didn’t stay for dessert after this, and probably won’t come back again considering how much the bill was.
Just gets better and better! It's been some time since we've eaten here and tonight did not disappoint. Tempura eggplant a total winner ginger and prawn dumplings and spring rolls an absolute delight for a shared starter. My main was beef cheeks and noodles... Yummy! My dad had the duck pancakes which were also delicious. We finished off the dinner with a creme caramel. Absolutely mouth wateringly good and excellent service. Well worth a trip into town.
We walked in to this place for dinner on a Thursday night and surprisingly the place was full. The outside seating was empty considering it was a bit cold. However, the host was polite to offer us a table in the outside area by providing us blankets and turning the heater on to ensure we are warm. The drinks were spot on, the food we ordered : ginger prawns dumplings, khimchi, charred lao eggplant dip, everything was perfect!! The best part was the desserts : chocolate fondant and hot apple pear spring rolls..just delicious!! Loved the food, ambience and service .. great work team Macau you are AWESOME!!
I used to rate Macau as one of the best places to eat in Tauranga. Food is tasty still but wasn't what it use to be...I had the lamb with noodles and for $39 I expected more. The meat was really well cooked but noodles didn't have huge flavour and for that price the food has to be amazing! We also asked the waiter for salt and got a super snobby look, overall staff were very friendly though I will admit. Won't be back in any hurry there so many amazing resteraunts around you guys need to step it up.
Nice place but not disability friendly. Had to sit outside in cold as no wheelchair ramp inside. Waiter was very attentive put heater on and gave blankets. Tempura eggplant was amazing but the tempura fish was just ok. Hash fries nice and something different. Good service just marked down for lack of disability support in this day and age it surprises me only needs a few tweeks to make it accessible. Vegetarian options: Tempura eggplant delicioys
Vegan review Although the menu listed 3 vegan options dumplings, cauliflower and eggplant dip, cauliflower turned out not to be vegan, as they added cream or dairy to the recipe. On the other hand the jungle curry was vegan, though listed as vegetarian, which was a nice surprise. Ordered all 3 to share for 2, which was plenty - Eggplant dip with wonton chips - unusual and surprisingly awesome take on dip, loved it. The waiter offered more chips, which was very nice - Dumplings were good, nothing special, but a good medium option ‍ - Jungle curry - fantastic, lots of flavour, soft tofu, beautiful on rice, 5 stars, would come back for it 4 stars because i felt the wait staff were rushing us off the table, but i couldn't tell why, as we weren't told that the table was booked after us. They asked if we were done with the food 5 times although we were clearly still eating But would come again definitely, nice ambiance, easy to book, delicious vegan curry
To Reply to K Smith Macau Restaurant has Full ramp access facilities for wheel chairs into the main restaurant, and wheel chair toilet facilities, this entrance is from the front of the courtyard opposite corner to reception. We also have a lift to upstairs Macau Lounge for people who can not manage stairs very well. We have many regular customers who use all of the above. When you arrived for lunch our waiters first question to you and your companion was “ would you like to sit inside or outside ? The reply he receive was we will sit outside as did 95% of our customers for lunch that day being a rare sunny day. We do know people in wheel chairs feel the cold more and that is why our waiter offered blankets and the gas heater and he was more than happy to take time out to take your photo at your request. Macau is sorry if we misunderstood you wanted to sit inside. Macau prides itself on its facilities and being able to facilitate all customers.
Food quality was excellent, service was very good & the waitress we had was so lovely & attentive. We got several dishes to share which worked well for us. It was very busy the night we dined with several large groups dining so the noise was quite loud but apart from that it was a very pleasurable experience. We would def come again.
