The average New Zealand household throws away $500 of food waste every year.
Love Food Hate Waste can help you reduce food waste and save money
You wouldn’t willingly throw your money into the rubbish bin, but Kiwis do just that every time they waste food with the average household throwing out $563 a year.
Food waste is a huge issue in New Zealand as we waste 122,547 tonnes of food each year.
Some food waste can’t be avoided – such as banana skins and egg shells – but nearly 50% of what Kiwis currently throw away is avoidable food waste such as bread crusts or leftovers. With a few handy tips for better planning, storing your food and loving your leftovers we aim to reduce the amount of food that Kiwis waste, which is not only better for our wallets, but also the environment.
Love Food Hate Waste will be launching its NZ website and campaign on 1 June 2016 with events around the country.
Be part of the #lovefoodhatewaste global movement which is fighting waste in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
