Amazing place. I want to return.nYou just couldn't dream of actually living and growing up in a place like this. So thankful for the people that restored it to what it is now.nJust incredible.nEven the weather put on a show for us. One day, clear as a bell. Could sit on the toilet and look out over the ocean. You could look out over the city from another.nNext minute it all disappeared in fog. Could barely see 10 feet away. Just a total white out.nI will remember this forever. A once in a lifetime experience that I would like to do again.
This was our splurge hotel.....but it didn't feel very luxurious. The castle is well worth visiting. The view was amazing but the room itself -well it just wasn't that nice for the price. The bed squeaked and sagged in the middle. If you stay here I would stay one night and enjoy all the castle has to offer including the grounds and gardens. You can enjoy them before or after you check out. You cannot cook in your room and town is far away so you may want to bring a picnic lunch/ dinner. The breeakfast is fine but nothing special. The service was excellent. If you are spending the weekend relaxing here and you bring some kid of picnic I might give it more stars but just as an accommodation i can't.
Interesting stay at the stable of the castle, the room is bit small but comfortable, and you can visit the castle free, which is a big reason why you should stay here. The lodge is double priced than the room in stable, but with views.
The rooms at the stable were what you paid for, great shower, breakfast spread really good, great value for money.
Having stayed over 1000 nights at different hotels, Larnach Lodge wins the prize of the absolute worst mattresses!! I should have read other reviews which have said the same - it's true. The breakfast was ok, it was served in the horse stables. It would have been nice to serve the breakfast in the lodge ballroom open to the public ... why would you choose to serve in horse stables. Also, the horse stable breakfast only had french press coffee, while the cafe had a full barista. The chefs could also use lessons on how to cook eggs as they were over cooked no matter what you ordered, over easy, poached, or even scrambled. The location and castle however were spectacular.
