Kuranui College is a state coeducational secondary school located in Greytown, New Zealand. The college opened in February 1960 to replace the three district high schools in Greytown, Featherston, and Martinborough. Serving Years 9 to 13, the college has a roll of students as ofThe name Kuranui in the Maori language means "'large school" (kura = school of education + nui = big, large), describing the aspect it was formed from three former high schools, and also being a secondary school ("bigger" than a primary school.). Like many secondary schools in New Zealand of the era, Kuranui was built to the Nelson plan, based on two-storey H-shaped "Nelson blocks", of which three were built at Kuranui and two of which still stand (the third was demolished in 2010).The school has had four principals - O. Sam Meads (1960–); Peter Werry; Joye Halford; and R. Grey Tuck (1998–2008). Geoff Shepherd, the then deputy principal, superseded Grey Tuck as principal of Kuranui in May 2008.
