Completely unplanned visit to this great wine producer winery which inspired me to give Chardonnays another go.nGreat wine tasting hosted by a very friendly and knowledgeable lady.nWould highly recommend a visit here for sure and be prepared to stock up on a few wines too.
One of the best family producers in Kumeu. Amazing history, outstanding wines and insightful and informative staff. Their 2022 Estate Barrique fermented Chardonnay is definitely one of the best Chardonnays in the Auckland region. NZWINEPRO - Auckland Wine Tours is a tour company that can take you to this winery and they can also show you through the barrel room and production facility. Highly recommend them both.
We drove straight from the Auckland airport to Kumeu River Winery. It takes around 40 minutes.nThis is a family owned winery, very welcoming and personal. The lady who conducted the tasting was really friendly, informative, and professional.nUnfortunately, the bubbles and premium Chardonnay were not available for tasting, however we did taste two pinot noirs, 1 pinot gris, 1 rosé, and 2 Chardonnays. Cost for a tasting is $10 pp.
Really surprised and impressed to find this gem in Kumeu. My husband and I have been traveling and working at wineries for the last 3 and a half years and we have rarely had such an amazing experience at a cellar door. Their wines are lovely all around, perhaps particularly appealing to our palates. We’re a bit picky with our Pinots but their Hawke’s Bay Pinot Noir was beautiful, full and well balanced. We were also impressed with the price point, I would expect to pay more for hand picked wine made with such care. Thank you Fiona for answering our questions and for the great tasting.
