Kippilaw House was a welcome rest and respite homestay after hiking Queen Charlotte track. It is a brisk 5min walk to the main shopping streets of picturesque Picton, with the quirky somewhat vintage decor usually sought and preferred by my wife. We had the entire upper floor, bedroom, large bathroom and sitting room. We only stayed one night and would have liked more time to explore Picton and surrounds with Kippilaw Hse as our base. Margaret and Bill were very interesting and attentive hosts, making sure we were most welcome, as did the dear alert terriers in residence. The breakfast, made with care, was more than most would eat, satisfying, with light pastries and the freshest white peach, strawberry, apricot and berries mixture ever, straight from local orchards not the supermarket. I say that as one who rarely eats fruit. Margaret also custom made a tasty mushroom and cheese omelette. Overall, highly recommended for any visitors to picturesque Picton seeking a personalised homestay bed and breakfast. Well done Margaret and Bill.
We chose Kippilaw House to stay to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.The hosts Margaret and Bill were so obliging and could not do enough for us. We had a private meal in our spacious room which had all modern facilities ,ensuite and sitting room included.The 4 course meal was superb and as good as you would get in a 5 star restaurant, a very nice bottle of wine included,. We also had a 3 course breakfast next morning with the same high standard of food. We cannot rate Kippilaw house highly enough in every way.
Such a beautiful guest house with idyllic gardens full of flowers and fruit trees. The hosts are so wonderful, could not be more helpful and THE FOOD! Sumptuous breakfasts with fruit straight from the trees. We did not want to leave! A must stay if you are in the area.
Our hosts were absolutely charming. The food was the best I've eaten in 30 years of travel in NZ. And such hearty helpings. OMG! The 3 course breakfast was awesome. The room was large and airy and we had a sitting/TVroom to ourselves. The menus were adjusted to our differing requirements gluten free etc. it couldn't have been better.Rooms: 5/5
Amazing place. Awesome views. Comfortable bed. Better than being at home, and that says a lot. It was the small details which transformed from 4.5 to 5 stars. Wonderful hosts. Excellent breakfast. Wow
The owner, Margaret McHugh, frequently posts extremely racist comments on Facebook. Kippilaw house also recently hosted a racist anti Māori event in Picton.
AMAZING PLACE! AMAZING HOSTESS & HOST!!! If you want a comfortable stay with AMAZING food and the most genuine people - stay at the Kippilaw House! Wine tours, homemade everything, stories, environment! Do yourself a favor - drive to Picton & spend a couple days at the Kippilaw House - it will give you a more positive outlook on LIFE! BOOM!
