Superb food and great service. Great starters and mains. Very significant serving of lamb should that was truly delicious. Staff very helpful also with wine pairing - great evening and worth a detour.
Amazing food and service ! Very friendly staff who took the time to explain all the dishes to us, and every single plate was a delight. Fav dish was the fried eggplant that’s crispy on the outside and perfectly soft in the middle, complement v well by the unique tangy sauce. I never had anything like this before. Best meal we had in nz! 10/10 recommend!
Where to start...nFrom the moment we walked into Kika, it was clear we were in for something special. The welcoming and atmosphere is warm and inviting. Duty Manager Ian Thomas welcomed us and the entire service is genuinely friendly and attentive.nnWe started of with some cocktails, a 'Kikarita' and a Mandarin Daiquiri - both absolutely amazing.nnWe decided to order from the à la carte menu and share a selection of dishes to experience as much as possible.nnTo start, we had the Bluefin Tuna Crudo with burnt mandarin dressing, whipped tofu and togarashi — what an incredible way to begin the meal. The dish was vibrant, beautifully balanced, and bursting with flavour. An absolute standout and the perfect opening to what promised to be a memorable dining experience.nnNext came a delightful greeting from the kitchen — a beautifully prepared scampi dish served with its own beurre blanc. Bursting with flavour, allowing the natural sweetness of the scampi to shine. A thoughtful and elegant surprise that set the tone for the courses to come.nnOur final starter was the Kika Fried Chicken—or 'KFC' as our waiter jokingly called it. The outstanding gochujang dressing delivered a bold, sweet heat that felt like a modern take on a classic buffalo sauce, while the lime mayo added a refreshing creaminess. The pickled daikon tied everything together beautifully. An incredibly well-balanced and seriously addictive dish.nnFor the main course, we chose the Lake Ōhau Wagyu short rib, served with smoked shallot purée and finished with a vibrant chimichurri. The short rib was cooked to absolute perfection — so tender it fell apart with the touch of a fork, yet still retained a beautifully caramelised crust on the outside. It was rich, deeply flavorful and executed flawlessly.nnTo accompany it, we shared two sides. The charred broccoli, served with silky cashew cream and crispy chilli oil - it was packed with smoky, light nutty flavours and had just the right amount of heat. Equally impressive were the glazed organic carrots, paired with a bright Sicilian dressing and whipped tahini. The sweetness of the carrots, balanced by the creamy tahini, made for a beautifully composed dish. Together, the sides complemented the short rib perfectly and completed an exceptional main course.nnYou can really feel the passion and creativity that goes into every single plate. The ingredients are thoughtfully combined and cooked with exceptional skill. Every course was memorable, making it difficult to choose a favourite for ourselves.nnA special mention goes to Chef James Stapley, who took the time to have a chat with us. It's always a pleasure to meet the person behind such exceptional food and his genuine passion, humility and willingness to connect with his guests made the experience even more memorable. It's these personal touches that elevate a great meal into a truly outstanding dining experience.nnA huge compliment to the ENTIRE team for delivering such a fantastic dining experience.nnKika is without question one of Wanaka's & New Zealand's standout restaurants and it's easy to see why it has earned such an outstanding reputation! We can't wait to return and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable meal!
A wonderful experience this evening at Kika, and in my humble opinion they're still just as good as I remember from my last visit nearly 8 year ago now.nnWe ordered a la carte but went with the recommendation of 3 small plates, one main, and two sided to share between two people and finished the meal feeling very full and satisfied without even needing dessert.nnMy wife even said this was the best meal of our NZ trip, we had already eaten at Ahi, Alma, and Amano in Auckland, Fiddlesticks and Goldfinch in Christchurch, and Treehouse Wanaka the evening before. Maybe it's recency bias but hey, happy wife, happy life. And Kika definitely made my wife very happy tonight. A wonderful way to end a wonderful day in Wanaka.nnFor me, it's truly a must-dine experience when visiting the city.
The best dining experience I’ve ever had. Each dishes are just sooooo good especially the starters and oysters. The design of ‘Just Feed Me’ is definitely friendly to people who are difficult to make decisions. Around NZD175 pax
