Kai Eatery
"Kai Eatery started in Auckland in 2016 as a night market stall. As there was a minimal existence of restaurants from Taiwan, Kai decided to build an eatery that showcases Taiwanese cuisine. It all began with the XL Fried Chicken. Beautifully marinated on the inside, generously coated on the outside and fried to perfection each time. Due to the markets being in different locations every day, they searched high and low for a permanent home and eventually settled in 1 Rutland St, CBD. Now Kai Eatery is open for 8 or more hours a day to serve the best Fried Chicken and much more!At Kai Eatery, we don't skip on the good stuff. We use 100% chicken breast in our XL fried Chicken and 14 secret ingredients that marinates our chicken."

A good place for some lunch takeaway/ afternoon snacks with heaps of options. The Chicken Bites were flavoursome and super crispy. The Kumara fries were yummmm, well fried and coated with sugar. Pork prawn and chive dumplings were juicy and tasty. Overall happy with everything ordered. The wait wasn’t too bad and staff was alright.
For some reason held back from going here despite walking past it almost every day which I regret. The wait took awhile despite it being at off peak hours but it’s definitely worth the wait. I had a go at tasting the chicken bites deluxe and the 101 Bao bun. Both were incredibly tasty and well-priced. For the chicken bites I highly suggest pairing it with Peri peri as it added a small hit of spice at the end which made it extra savoury . The bao bun was okay and the pork belly itself that was put inside was pretty dry from my experience. I would still suggest giving Kai eatery a try at least once or twice if you happen to walk past! I’m keen on returning again on the walk back to uni
Service was quick and straightforward. The XL Chicken flavours were tasty and perfectly spicy for me. I give it a 4 because the chicken was crispy on top but bit soggy on the other side due to oil not being dripped off the chicken completely.
The chicken bites were juicy, and right heat. That’s the fried chicken which I love. The traditional Taiwanese fried chicken is my favorite.
Fried chicken spot run out of a permanent shipping container. There are always people but the wait is never long, staff is nice and cheerful, prices are accessible for most. XL style fried chicken was great, had an almost cinnamon flavor, super juicy with good exterior crunch. The pork and chicken bao were also really good. Didn't try any of the teas but many people were getting them. Highly recommended, near many of the universities, fast and easy, not expensive.
Awesome drink and food, authentic Taiwanese style, especially deep fried chicken fillet. Amazing.. Similar ones you buy in Sydney Asian eateries. Try it out. The only down side of this pop up Eatery is that there is a bit of wait during peak hours but nothing undercover, so cen be windy and cold if its not a sunny day.
I came by and got some takeaway. I had a bubble tea as well as the bento meal. I quite like their fried chicken. Nice flavours and really crispy. I wasn't a big fan of the pork belly since it was a bit dry. The food did have to travel a bit so that might have affected the quality. It is a nice place to grab some food and/or drinks.
It’s a solid 4.5 stars. The chicken bites delux was delicious and portion was generous. Lost 0.5 stars because of the service ... I understood they were busy, but service still lacked a little. I also had to pay the paywave surcharge because they only place the machine behind the window for covid purposes I think ? It’s not the cheapest street food either but overall decent Taiwanese food.
The cashier lady is so bad attitude and very racist. I have been this place twice, everytime she is inpatient and arrogant to me.By the way I just visited today and an old white guy ordered food after me. The lady turned into a super nice person to the old white guy. I am totally shocked.
For the record, this review is mostly entirely based on their sweet potato fries for now; I’ll definitely be returning to try out the entire menu - but these fries? The best I’ve ever tasted in Auckland and I’ve tried a lottttttt of sweet potato fries here. They were soft and fluffy on the inside, but crisp and crunchy on the outside and they were seasoned in such a way that angels were singing overhead in that the seasoning and batter went so so perfectly with the sweetness of the potatoes and just wow wow wow, 15/10 for the fries alone. My friend had never tried bubble tea before so played it safe with the mango smoothie; I like the container that they put it in but it was icy, and watery milky, and probably wasn’t a good idea for the bipolar weather in CBD today. Probably would never get that again. Also just wish they gave more fries bc I’m a hungus and your girl likes to eat I know some people like me don’t care about meh service bc I know how rough the service industry is, and most places only care about just the food being good anyway, but service was also super cute so yay!
