Jens Hansen is a well-known artisan jewellery workshop in New Zealand and the original maker of The One Ring for the Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit movies.
Originally established in 1968 by Jens and Gurli Hansen, the central Nelson studio workshop is now run by Jens' son Halfdan Hansen.
Jens’ work is highly regarded nationally and internationally; he is in the Marquis Who’s Who and has designs in the permanent collection of the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa.
Jens passed away in 1999, but his legacy lives on in the hands of the internationally experienced in-house jewellers. Creating designs with the distinctive ‘Jens Hansen’ style, these artisan jewellers hand-forge beautiful pieces of jewellery that are easily recognised and crafted to last for generations; diamond engagement and dress rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches and silverware.
Jens Hansen was also Peter Jackson's ringmaker of choice to design and make the ring depicted on screen as The One Ring for his movie versions of J. R. R. Tolkien's famous The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit books.
