Relaxing walk on a well-maintained trail through areas of native bush, with gentle climbs to bluffs offering lofty views of the Waikato River surging downstream to the Huka Falls. The distance is 3km one way and allow 45 min to 1 hour to complete each direction.
A great walk to Huka Falls with fantastic views of the river. Can also ride along the cycle track.
Beautiful walk. It's fairly easy, but does get steep in sections. It was sunny when we went, but the wet would be slippery. I'd recommend at least wearing closed in shoes.nnI couldn't get over how stunning the river was to walk along.
The Huka Falls Walk is a great place for runners, walkers, dogs, & children. The walk can take around 30-45 minutes depending on your walking speed. It climbs & falls along the river with towering pines & dancing fantails. As you get closer to the falls, you can hear the roar of the falls and the trail flattens out. As you walk, there is one lookout & a bench with fabulous views. You can view the falls from multiple vantage points so take your time to explore. There’s an additional lookout if you follow the path to the Aratiatia Rapids, it’s a bit of a climb & worth it. You can see the luxurious Huka Lodge on the banks on the opposite side of the river on your return trip. Plenty of open spaces for dogs to run free & swim in the river. There’s also a Frisbee Golf course. Most people come for the thermal waters that flow into the river though it’s hit & miss as to the temperature.
We had a great 2h and 9.5km walk to the Huka falls by the river and then loop back through forrest. Good instructions for walkers and bikers, nice sand paths.
