Great location and rooms are ok. Only bad experience was being dressed down by rude French security person from the Duke pub for walking through the adjoining door. If the Duke don't want customers from the hotel they should put up signage or shut the door. Or better solution don't go to the Duke.Rooms: 4/5
Don’t stay here if you can. The person checking us in was immediately rude. When I asked for towels for a 6 person room, he gave me 2 towels only. Then when my friend went down to see if we could get more, he gave her 6! Then, the rooms are disgusting! The carpet looks dirty, the shower is disgusting, and the mattresses are terrible. The mattresses are very thin, and the spring below gave all of us terrible back pain. The beds are also very creaky so any movement is very loud. The shower temperature is either steaming hot or freezing cold, and the pressure sucks. The toilet is also partially in front of a wall so you have to turn your body to sit on it properly. Like in other reviews, the place is also very run down and unkept. The community room smells disgusting and the couches are so gross you can’t even sit on them. This place is where you would film a haunted movie. This place was not mine to choose as it was part of a school trip, so if you have the choice, don’t stay here! The only good thing about this place is that it has a nice location. I have no clue how the ratings are above 3 stars.
We had a great experience with Waterloo. Our queen and single room with private bathroom was cosy, well appointed, clean with comfortable beds. The staff were helpful and friendly, location was great and the Duke of Wellington restaurant was the cream on top of a great stay.Rooms: 4/5
Do not stay here if you have any kind of hygiene standards. We stayed in an 8 man dorm that felt so grimy and creepy. The whole vibe of the hotel was honestly just scary. We went out for dinner purely because we didn’t want to use the hostel kitchen. Bad smells bad vibes. One positive is it couldn’t be closer to the train station but if you want to explore wellington past the CBD it’s 30 min walk from the fun neighborhoods.
The attention of the receptionist at 17hs on 05/25/23 and the receptionist on 05/24/23 at 18hs was very bad, they did not greet us, did not explain anything, did not want to assist us when we had a problem and although we booked 4 single beds in the hostel, the guy at the reception on 05/25/23 wanted to charge us a deposit for giving us the key, and so the 4 of us had to walk around with only one key. Muy mala la atención
Only good thing is it being close to the station other than that it's incredibly run down, dirty, stinky and most importantly, impossible to feel comfortable in the bed almost like a school PE matt on a metal frame. Coupled with loud snorers makes for a proper miserable night. Wished I'd spent a bit extra for more comfort.Rooms: 1/5
We had a private en suite room. It’s not plush, but the beds were fairly comfy - just be aware most of it is very old/run down/needs replacing so it definitely doesn’t feel clean even if it maybe is clean! It was a bit noisy but we didn’t actually have any problems sleeping. The communal areas were quite run down so we didn’t use them.
Highly questioning the personal hygiene of people who have reviewed this place more than 1 star. Hands down the most dirty and depressing place me and my friends have ever stayed in. There was mouldy food and flies in the kitchen and the whole place had a horrible smell, the carpets and sheets had stains. Overall there was a very weird atmosphere and doesn’t feel safe. Very cheap but apart from good location it’s really really not worth the discomfort - Just don’t go here.
Well, not so terrible as some of the other reviews said. The style of the hotel is quite old. Not the most comfortable backpacker hostel... My roomates were creepy!*_* For 1 or 2 nights its oka, but for longer stay I definitely recommend a better hostel!
Be warned. The photos on the hotel website aren’t representative of what you will get. The hotel is very run down and dirty. The bedding was very old, sheets are discolored and thin. The bathroom was disgusting. Shower with terrible pressure over a rusty bathtub. Old towel on the floor to soak up water from a leaky pipe. Toilet with a faulty flush and no curtain over the bathroom window so that people living in the building across the road can look right in and see you in the shower. We would never stay here again.
