Dated brown room. Broken face plate on the electric switch in the bathroom and abysmal shower pressure. We ate in the restaurant. Two of us had pork roast of the day but definitely not that day. Thickly sliced pork reheated and quite disgusting flavour. We adjourned to another establishment for dessert. Would definitely not recommend.
Rooms are nice & clean, very comfortable and aren’t expensive. Staff are lovely and accommodating to any last minute changes. Great facilities within the complex with a beautiful garden. Highly recommend them for a work stay.Rooms: 5/5
We were looking forward to staying here after we called and had a nice conversation with the receptionist a few weeks earlier. Unfortunately, we may have set our expectations too high. On arrival, we weren't really told much around restaurant breakfast times and checkout times as well. We were asked if we were eating, and we were told we could dine in either the restaurant or the turf bar if dining after 9pm. This was the exception to our stay. The service from the young girls in the restaurant was lovely, and the food was also really good. We had the Calamari Entree, Prawn Entree, and the Lamb Shank main. They were all fantastic but did take a while to get to us, considering we were the only ones there. The room was fine and as expected size wise, the bed unfortunately was hard and uncomfortable and neither of us had a good night's sleep. The air-conditioning would have been fine, but unfortunately, they had the mini fridge in a closed cabinet with an air vent, so the heat from the fridge just came out through the vent, counteracting the air-conditioning. Very uncomfortable evening in 27-degree heat. The water pressure in the shower was no more than a drizzle. There was no phone in the room to contact reception or order room service - you had to call the hotel number from your mobile, we assume, as there was no information in the compendium either. Went to make a cup of coffee in the morning, but the jug wouldn't fit in the sink to fill up. I needed to refill a glass multiple times to top up the jug. So, a lot of little issues led to a pretty average stay at the Hotel Ashburton, unfortunately. Had so much potential but is pretty dated and is long overdue for a makeover.
Have stayed here often for about 5 yrs on my way to and from Picton-Invercargill. The rooms are a wee bit dated, but always clean, comfy and have loads of light. A key reason I like to stay is with the restaurant right there I don't have to think about food...and the food is awesome..and plentiful!!..for both dinner and breakfast. But a lot also has to do with the staff...they are always friendly, couldn't be more helpful, professional and great to deal with. Highly recommend a stay here.
It took so long to get our room even though we even payed $20.00 to check in early but we didn’t get our room till over an hour. The staff communicates very poorly and doesn’t keep track of our purchased meals properly and tried to charge us double, we didn’t but now we have to call our bank to make sure we did and to tell the hotel. The room looks fine with a good view of the garden at least our room, food is fine, $60.00 for a fish food platter, the bar is clean and to get to your room you have to go through long hallways at least there’s multiple exist doors. There’s ramps in entrances, but not very wheel chair accessible with multiple push/pull doors in hallways, with sharp hallway corners, and slightly narrow hallways. At least the location is in town and by the racecourse.
Service for a start is well above board , very professional, very polite , meals well now compliment to the chef so tasty very filling, rooms , beds are nice n soft not hard , well presented, compliments to all the staff thank you Rooms: Spacious, comfortable , quiet Food & drinks: Well deserved prices , beautiful presented, tastes great
Unfortunately we had a staff member open our door at 5.30am with no warning. Pretty shocking when challenged they said someone reported a leaking hand basin. Well what was she going to do at 5.30am. Really disappointed that this happened. Seems to be a real unacceptable incident. Please ensure you have your door chain locked. Rooms: Quiet. Safety: Beware of in the middle of the night staff opening your door. Not acceptable. Noteworthy details: See post.
Had a bar meal beef snitzel was so over cooked and I mean dark brown couldn't chew it it shatted when you cut it should have sent it back all they said was I'll tell the chef
Nice hotel units next to a nice restaurant and bar. The place has excellent car parking and right across the road from the racecourse. Close to town its a good choice for a very reasonable price.Rooms: 5/5
