Everything I would hope for traveling on a budget, a fantastic hostel. Very clean and comfortable, with an astounding view from the kitchen and main hangout area. Terrific location in Paihia, just across the street from the docks, Gateway to a crazy range of activities out on the water and islands. Excellent service from the front desk Byron deserves a raise, informative and supportive. All around, just a terrific place to stay. I highly recommend this hostel, and would definitely stay here again.
I really loved staying at Haka house Bay of islands. All of the staff were really friendly & helpful & it was a lovely atmosphere. I stayed here longer than I expected because I really enjoyed staying there & I came back & stayed again after travelling the north. It's a really good location, the view from the kitchen/living area is amazing & it's an all round great place to stay I'd highly recommend staying here when you visit Paihia
BEWARE! BEDBUGS!nMore concerning lack of accountability! No accountability or support at all. Oh yes…No staff on premise or stationed on property after 9pm… so I had to spend the night in the common area lounge after the infestation that night nevertheless.nSeasoned traveler here visited over 75 countries and after reporting being bite by bedbugs in the room with provided proof of photos of bites and stained blood sheets after killing on the bugs managed refuses to accept any responsibility and claims they “were” mosquitoes bites! It was 15Degrees at night and I didn’t even open the bedroom windows?? And how to explain all the bites on the legs and areas of my body covered under the blankets… or would “mosquitoes “ get to me there too ?? Furthermore, we all well know and recognise bed bug biting patterns that was evident in the photos provided.nStay stay clear away! Imagine. Did or will they even fumigate /look into this seriously??nDecide for yourself…nWorst experience ever!
I had the best stay in Haka House Bay of Islands. The location couldn't be better. Right in the town center, close to a beach, ferry terminal to Russel, restaurants and in a walking distance to Waitangi Treaty Ground. The hostel has absolutely wonderful view across the Bay of Islands. Beds have the best mattresses in any hostel I've ever visited. Showers, bathrooms and kitchen are kept perfectly clean by an awesome and friendly staff. Kitchen is fully equipped, so you can reheat, cook and bake your meal. Free instant coffee and tea was a welcomed bonus. Hostel manager Pablo is super nice, gives you the best local recommendations and can help you book a tour for a good price. Thank you for making my stay memorable. I can only recommend.
The Hostel Looks new and is Clean with real towls. But showers didn't Work properly an rooms got No fresh air. Therefore the price rises steep If nearly book. Not convinced Overall even with the nice view.
