Stayed here for two nights and was very pleased with hostel and Jack the friendly receptionist.nnCosy and full of character with spacious kitchen and plenty of places to eat or relax. My partner and I enjoyed the board games and badminton rackets free for use. There are books galore and comfy couches and a work table for the book worm or casual journaller. The other backpackers are quiet and friendly, this was a great place to recharge after a hectic day out. Plus only five minutes from beach.nnHighly recommend this hostel.
We stayed for a night in Bay of Islands for wildlife cruise.nnGreat location! Walking distance from bus stop we felt safe to walk at 10pm. Also close to Paihia Wharf and shops, very convenient!nnThe staff is also accommodating. I asked if okay for 3 guests to occupy the room as I always get to add extra charges for the child but he happily placed us upstairs with a double bed and a single bed. The room reminds me of my parents’ guest house in Bantayan Island, Philippines - feels nostalgic!nnHowever I did not sleep well as there is only 1 fan and can’t seem to bring much ventilation in the room I didn’t expect to feel sooo warm as it’s close to shore and I could hear squeaky footsteps in the middle of the night keeps me awake for too long, I wonder who and why people are still awake between 1-3AM?nnI don’t think we would stay here again if going back to Paihia unless a modest renovation is applied install ACs, sturdy floors/privacy rules. Nevertheless, thank you for hosting us - cheers from Australia.
Just left the room in 8 hrs after full payment, just stayed there only because they were near to cruise trip to hole in the rock.. worst attitude from the racist manager. Won't recommend this place to any ..
We've stayed at many budget accommodations over the years but there is 'budget' then there is BUDGET bold, underlined, screaming. The owner was very friendly and the location is great but that's the end of the positives for this place. The Lodge is tired, run down, and not inviting at all. Our room was clean enough but everything about it needs an upgrade especially the bathroom. The guest kitchen is not very clean, I assume guests had left their cleaned dishes in the dish rack, the tea towels were dirty and stained, tables and floor were messy, just not my idea of cleanliness for a kitchen.nnI understand that tourists need budget accommodations but surely there at least needs to be a standard of care and cleanliness. This place was not for us and we definitely won't be back.
Miserable Service like the staff. If you want a positive vibe look elsewhere unless they Checkin or it was a prank!nI'm now called a racist when I'm not & frankly couldnt care an exit crap especially if it's coming from an ex's friends of friends.
