Most terrible accommodation stay in my life.nWe booked a Lake View room, but could barely see the lake—the view is mostly blocked by cars in the carpark and a big red ice cream truck or something. Nothing in the room works: it isn’t a smart TV and the “cast from phone” feature doesn’t work at all. Most importantly, there was no hot water. After a long day all we wanted was a hot shower, but from the moment we checked in there was none.nnWhen we called for help, the person on the phone had a bad attitude and showed no care. All he said was “it’s not an emergency,” with no intention to fix the problem or offer any compensation. The bathroom looks and feels like a public toilet. There’s zero soundproofing—you can hear people talking in the hallway and in other rooms.nnThe kitchen is dirty and poorly maintained. I will definitely never come back.
This was perfect for our stay in Wanaka, although I did not know that could not park in front of the hotel with our car unless you paid for it. This was not super clear while booking, because I filtered on car parking available.nnNevertheless it was easy to park on the adjoining street. The stay was great, the private room with lake view was beautiful. The room was small, but modern.nnThe common facilities were useful.
Loved this place! Kind friendly staff, lovely facilities and great location. I turned up on the day with no booking and the staff could not have been more helpful with getting me all booked in and helping me choose the right room! -1 for paid parking, seems unnecessary but there is free parking right across the street!
We changed our plans just to stay another night. Dorm rooms are clean, tidy, warm, and well furnished, with their own private bathroom and kitchenette. Shared facilities are modern, spacious, and comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. Whether you are just passing through or wanting a Basecamp for your South Island adventures, I highly recommend checking out Haka House.
We stayed in a Standard Family Room, which included a double bed and two bunk beds. The room was warm and clean, and all essentials were provided. The shared kitchen and bathroom facilities were also well-maintained, true to the Haka House standards we experienced elsewhere.nnThe location is a standout—right across Lake Wanaka and close to the town centre. However, our room was located in a separate building from the main complex, which meant a bit of a walk to access the kitchen, especially inconvenient during cold evenings.nnParking was a bit tight, but there was ample street parking nearby. Overall, a great stay with a few minor caveats.
