absolutely best place on south island to get ski gear. I made a ski boot appointment. It lasted two hours because of all the attention and work that goes into making the boot exactly right including 3 different measurements, custom insert creation, boot stretching, latch adjustments and probably a bunch that I don't remember. By comparison Torpedo7 where I went first had one measurement which turned out to be wrong and then didn't have anything that would fit. The level of professionalism at Gnomes vs. other experiences at ski shops is worth the trip to Darfield.
Best customer service ever. Celia is highly recommended, my son lost a screw fixing of chin guard. I sent an email to the store and got a reply very quickly with lots of helpful information from Celia. Even we are just looking for low-price accessory, they did spend a lot of time try to help us out via emails. As her suggestion, we managed to find a right screw from a specialized hardware store in CHCH which only cost us 40 cents. I am definitely will reckon Gnomes to friends and families if they go skiing/snowboarding at Canterbury-Selwyn area. Cheers, Rachel.
Great staff, very efficient with their rental equipment. Utilising their website to upload information prior to your visit really speeds up the rental process. Two thumbs up.
Best ski boot shop I've ever been to or heard of. Extremely experienced staff spent several hours fine tuning the orthotics, boot lining, and boot shell of my new gear. Cheers, Andrew. The boots are incredibly snug & firm, yet as comfortable as old slippers. Fittings are far too good. Well worth flying in for, book in advance!
Went in to gnomes fully prepared to buy touring boots and Frame bindings, skins the whole lot for my partner so we could start ski touring together and the boot fitter was absolutely the rudest person we have ever met insulting my partners flexibility and basically discouraged her from trying ski touring at all. We finished the boot fitting and left the store as fast as possible. Really disappointed as we really liked gnomes before this absolute insult of customer service.
With renting they did not have option for our feet sizes 10,8 and 9.Was very disappointed but decided to buy new gear from x collective with is the best ski shop in New Zealand
Good booking system and quality of rental gear available. Staff were very helpful with getting skis for our youngster.

Leith is a boot-fitting master! Her years of experience really shine through. I thought I would have to buy new boots but she re-customised my old boots and I am skiing pain free for the first time. I spent a lot of time and money getting custom-fitted boots at another store. Despite multiple repeat visits I could not ski comfortably and my skiing was really limited by pain, numbness and bruised toe nails. Within minutes of meeting Leith she had grasped the biomechanics of my problem, and then re-customised the same boots, which now fit me so well. The appointment service means you have undivided attention and are not rushed. I highly recommend Gnomes and Leith, she really knows what she’s talking about!
Can not recommend enough, having always bought ski boots from other "reputable suppliers" i was cautious when seeing they might not be the cheapest in the market. BUT i have never had better fitting boots with better service. Have since taken all my friends in to also get proper fitting boots! such kind staff and great after sales service. Don't go anywhere else for boot fitting! thanks guys
