A Four Hawk Day is the best day possible according to our children, so it was the obvious name for our wine label. The grapes for these wines are produced on our family vineyard in Marlborough's Waihopai Valley.
The grapes for Four Hawk Day wines come from our Waihopai Valley vineyard. We left the city life in 1993 to give our children the chance to grow up in the gorgeous Marlborough countryside. Since the earliest days Tess, Leatham and Piers helped care for the vines and along the way we found that the classic old-world family-centred model was the best way to produce exciting new world wines. Four Hawk Day comes from a "hawk spotting" game the children played on the ride to town, one or two were special, but to see four hawks was the best day possible. The label image with hawk was painted by our daughter at 9 years old.
The first FHD wine was a typical clean fresh Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. For 2013 we have added Pinot Gris and Rosé plus oaked Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir for 2014. With the 2012 SB we visited restaurants and wine bars, to build a rapport with the owners and staff who are selling and pouring our wine. We remain committed to providing this personal level of service to our customers.
