For the Love of Bees is a Social Sculpture for collective learning. Together we are regenerating our spaces to make them safe for pollinators and all life.
This legacy project for Auckland Council looks to accelerate the process towards becoming the world’s most liveable city by becoming the most bee friendly city on earth.
The collaboration will present opportunities for biological and scientific innovation, economic development, community sharing, environmental awareness and tourist visitation through formal and informal activities, learning, events and networking within the central city community.
The project will be facilitated by Sarah Smuts-Kennedy, artist and vision holder of the project, who will provide a framework for the development, design and delivery of the programmes that promote partnership and ownership by the various participants. Advisors with specialist knowledge in bee-keeping, planting and environmental issues will guide participants in the process of identifying the issues and needs around bee conservation that will ultimately result in the fabrication, testing and installation of bee hives along with the necessary support structures to maintain on-going activities and bee keeping techniques.
