Rugby Club in the Auckland Province
Established in 1922, Eden Rugby Club is one of the oldest rugby clubs in Central Auckland.
We are currently enjoying a growing membership base and increased profile due to the Rugby World Cup which took place in our neighbourhood and the face-lift of our now, substantial clubrooms.
We have a strong history in the area and are based at Gribblehirst Park, the closest club rugby ground to the great Eden Park, just 500 metres down the road. Our secondary ‘home’ playing fields are Warren Freer and May Rd Memorial Park.
During the year, the club rooms are used for both private and corporate groups, and we have a few complimentary businesses with ongoing arrangements also utilising our facilities which we lease from Auckland Council.
Early life saw the club based in Parrish Road, Sandringham and around 50 years ago moved to our current club rooms at Gribblehirst park .
The original club room trusses were man-handled from Parrish Road to be used in our club rooms. These are a feature in the lounge.
Today our Junior numbers are as strong as our peak in the late 40’s.
We still hold the record as the club to win the most relegation games under the old Senior promotional relegation system.
With the revival of the Sandringham area we see Eden Rugby as an important part of the community for many years to come.
