Dilworth School

About

School in Auckland, New Zealand.

Story

In 1894, James Dilworth founded a boarding school for boys from good families with limited means. Over a century later, his remarkable legacy is still transforming boys’ lives - beyond belief. Today, as then, Dilworth selects boys from good families who are experiencing financial or personal hardship, regardless of their race or ethnicity. They’re offered a life-changing scholarship, which includes free tuition, free boarding and free music and sports lessons (in fact, almost everything is funded by the Dilworth Trust). The effect? Thanks to the transformative power of an excellent education, we turn good boys into great men - who achieve things they might never have believed possible.

The Dilworth Journey often begins in Year 5 or 7 at our Junior Campus in Remuera. It continues at our Rural Campus in Mangatawhiri, where Year 9 boys learn practical, problem-solving skills for life. And it ends at our Senior Campus in Epsom, where they become prefects, house leaders and achievers.

Those poor boys, to think all those teachers and the principal knew what was going on and didn't stop it. Makes me physically sick I'm so glad my son didn't get in to this school. Someone was watching over me and my son. What's to say it's still not going on now.
Despite what the media have said, I'd wager I have a better availability bias than any ignorant poor reviews from people who haven't heard or known of Dilworth before the interview of those poor young men, though I can't offer any recompense for their abuse, I dont believe it should be associated with the longstanding name that is Dilworth... The timely poor reviews following an untimely newspread are disparaging to the reputation of a good school. It's like cherry picking the worst apples out of a tree. We've had success stories with my family and friends who were Dilworth Alumni and I will choose to highlight the great products that Dilworth has and continues to produce. They are a lifeline for bright young boys from poor families. I wouldn't associate the Dilworth name with Pederasty due to the actions of a few individuals who are no longer employed there, but by the success stories that have come and continue to come out of a great school. Dilworth isn't a good school because these individuals aren't there anymore, it is a great school because it provides and continues to develop young men for they're/our future.
Shocking school!!! After watching the documentary about this school, it doesn't even deserve 1 star!! Hope all you abusers are held to account!!
I worked here in the late 90's on the caretaking staff, It makes me sick to think I sat next to Father Brown, AKA rather round amongst the older students, in the dinning hall each day. He came across as such a caring and nice man in our many conversations. He even worked on radio at radio pacific.
Genuinely incredible place to work. Mission of the school is incredibly unique. Proud to be part of the history of this place.
Associated with Dilworth School for many years as a parent and now as a Staff member. The opportunities for the boys here are unique. Dilworth is about transforming lives and providing care and support to enable these young men to develop and thrive. They come in as boys and leave as young men equipped and ready to be good and useful citizens.
