We ordered pork hock and beef with caramelised onions. The beef did not taste special, but I loved the sauce and mashed potato. The pork hock was very tasty. The crackling was so crispy and savoury. The meat was very tender and juicy. We will defintely go back to have pork hock again. However, we had to wait for more than 35-40minutes until the dishes were served. It was a bit boring to wait for that long.
The food is very good but the service was pretty damn bad. We were the first people and the restaurant was empty but we got the bread after we finished the food!! There was a young guy there who seemed very confused, it could be his first day. The lady who helped us although there was a delay but she had a nice smile and very good attitude.
Food is great, the jägerschnitzel was delicious. Staff are very friendly. There are tables outside near heaters, which is a dog friendly area and more quiet than inside the restaurant. Service is not fast, so it isn’t a place for a quick meal. Would definitely come back for more schnitzel.Food: 5/5
Der Metz is a great local restaurant in Kohimarama everyone loves. It is great for couples, families, and groups. The portions are big and food is good quality. Great place to sit back, relax and enjoy your meal.
On our pursuit to slowly tick off every Iconic Eat in Auckland, we came across Der Metz. We ordered the Schnitzel and the pork platter and both dishes were incredible. The gravy they served with the pork was insane and I was regretting not getting a side order of just gravy. All in all 10/10
Amazing food. But more importantly even more amazing staff. I ordered bowls of chips today as I really enjoyed the chips from my last visit a few weeks back. I didn't feel that I waited a long time for the chips to be ready. However they gave me two ginger beers on the house for the wait, which wasn't an issue at all. Really appreciated the gesture. The staff hold themselves to a high standard and it obviously comes through in their food. So thank you so much guys. Amazing food and service.
Der Mets never disappoints with their range of great beers as well their epic menu. My group of 7 had 4 different beers each, Jägermeister shots, individual selected meals and a pork hock to share. Safe to say we were well hungover the next day but not hungry. We had great banter from the staff also 10/10 experience! Parking: Plenty of street parking
Lovely place with great ambience, vibe, and location. Food was excellent, portions are magnificent, giant pork hock and schnitzels! What was the highlight was the wonderful service from our waitress. Such a good sport with a great attitude, and on top of having to deal with a clearly understaffed situation.Food: 5/5
Absolutely disappointed. Rude staff and substandard food. I live just around the corner in Kohimarama I’ve had this place recommended to me several times. I walked past it with the dog after our walk on the beach and thought, ‘why not?’ I walked in leaving the dog outside and asked if it was too early to have dinner 6pm and was there a table available. To be told rudely ‘no dogs you have to eat outside if you want to eat here.’ - I thought that this was obvious as this is the case in most restaurants, which is why I left her outside. I declined to comment on the fact that an older patron sat by the bar had a little fluffy lapdog on her knee. I took a table outside and waited a good 10 minutes for a menu. Then had to ask two different waitresses to order. There were 2 waitresses and a bar tender all were young ladies appearing to be in their late teens and early 20’s. I’m unsure why they were so nonchalant and dismissive as there were only 3 other tables there and they didn’t appear to be busy and were spending most of there time milling around and chatting between themselves by the bar. I ordered the porterhouse and chips and mushroom sauce on the side as was feeling like treating myself. The food took around 15 minutes which was sooner than I expected. The steak itself was well seasoned and was a perfect medium rare and was a good temperature. Unfortunately it was absolutely tiny. The chips were cold and tasted like the oil hadn’t been changed since Monday, were heavily salted and were also a very small portion. The accompanying mushroom sauce which took up the majority of the plate was cold, but tasted quite nice. The salad was 2 cherry tomatoes on a bed of salad leaves. It was a very thin bed….. However, the vinaigrette which accompanied the salad was delicious. I was disappointed by this meal. But I probably wouldn’t have written this review if the service wasn’t so bad. I’ve had worse food at many other places in my life but I normally give them a second chance and go back and try something else on the menu. I won’t be returning to Der Metz. Maybe the chef was having an off day, that is absolutely understandable. But being spoken to so rudely by the staff is inexcusable.
"Der Metz in Kohimarama, Auckland serves delicious entrées like crumbed camembert and a beautifully presented Brettljause platter. Their pork hock and crumbed schnitzel were also delicious. They have a nice selection of German beer and wine that pairs well with the meals. However, the service can be slow at times and one of our dishes was accidentally mixed up with another guest's. The atmosphere is nice, but it can be cramped for larger groups."
