The Department of Classics offers Undergraduate and Post-Graduate courses of study in the languages and cultures of the Classical Mediterranean world.
Classics has been taught at the University of Otago since its establishment in 1869, with the Chair of Classics being one of the three foundation chairs. Today, our teaching and research covers a wide range of topics, from art and archaeology, to Greek and Latin studies, to mythology and society. We offer papers in Classical Studies, as well as language papers in Greek and Latin. We also offer a range of more specialised papers in such areas as Roman society, Cicero, Alexander the Great, Greek tragedy, and Graeco-Roman art, myth, and literature. http://www.otago.ac.nz/courses/subjects/clas.html
