Step back in time with a visit to Old Cromwell town – When the Clyde dam was completed in 1990, Cromwell’s main street disappeared under Lake Dunstan. Following that some of the historic buildings dating back to the gold rush of the 1860’s were saved or lovingly rebuilt on higher ground, creating the Cromwell Heritage Precinct.nnNow filled with cafes, a Gallery, Museum and shops all on the shore of beautiful Lake Dunstan and the cycle track.

A charming step back in time! The Cromwell Heritage Precinct beautifully preserves historic gold rush-era buildings, now home to artisan shops, cozy cafés, and galleries. Stunning lake views, local markets, and a relaxed atmosphere make it a must-visit in Central Otago.
Loved it. The aliveness made it with great local businesses. Great coffee and very much enjoyed meeting and talking with Darryl Rae the stonecarver. So generous with his time
