A newly renovated art space with incredible views over the city. The main building hosts a shop and library while on the grounds are two unique exhibition spaces that show emerging artists. A great cafe, owned by the famed Gardener’s Cottage, exists on site along with a small coffee stand at the entrance. It’s definitely worth a stop on the Edinburgh tourist trail - go for the views and stay for the art.
Really enjoyed my trip to the current exhibition, Cauleen Smith's video installation HELLO. More than happy to make a small donation to support this great space. Very relaxed and welcoming space. Small suggested fee to use the bathroom. A unique art experience. Looking forward to seeing what is on next.
Small place with few things to look at. Free entry. What few items they have on display are very fascinating.
The exhibition that was on when we visited was not particularly interesting. The shop/museum part was okay with some nice but limited info about some of the other structures on Carlton Hill and there were some good sheets for kids. A good place to drop in for a few minutes but not as much content as I had hoped for. That might just have been the exhibition which was on at the time.
Great renovation of the old observatory! For anyone looking for an alternative viewpoint of Edinburgh, this is worth a walk up. You'll find a number of pop up exhibition and a small shop here, all housed in some nifty architecture. Do visit on a clear day and do bring a camera!
An amazing view of Edinburgh from the top very nice and beautiful
Easy enough access to the top of hill Great view
If you don't read the information board it is meaningless. Curators define taste. Not my taste.
Great exhibition H-E-L-L-O at Collective, and very helpful and friendly staff. Great views out over Edinburgh and there is a small cafe kiosk open even though the main cafe was closed at the time.
a must go to for tourists and also for us locals who haven't been for ages
