This beautiful family-owned vineyard, Coal Pit, covers 12 hectares of land on the dramatic north-facing slopes of the Gibbston Valley, about 20 minutes out of Queenstown, New Zealand.
The vineyard was first planted in 1994. Since its purchase in 2001 by the current owner, Rosie Dunphy, limited quantities of wine have been produced whilst adopting the latest viticultural and winemaking practices.
Building the new state-of-the-art winery in the middle of the vineyard has enabled Coal Pit grapes to be picked at their peak and, with the immediate transfer to the fermenting tanks, ensuring their vibrancy and delicate flavours are never lost.
Consequently Coal Pit is proudly producing premium, award winning wines.
