Clearwater Salmon Hatchery has been operating for 3 years, supplying high quality Salmon fry/smolt and eggs to the NZ aquaculture industry.
Located centrally only five minutes drive from Christchurch international airport our hatchery is ideally positioned to supply salmon farms and restock wild fisheries throughout New Zealand.
We are based at the Isaac salmon site which has a proud history in the New Zealand salmon farming industry being established on McLeans Island in the 1950s by Sir Neil and Diana Isaac. During those early days they discovered an abundant water aquifer that flowed crystal-clear. It was later named Peacock Springs as the colour reminded the Isaacs of the deep blue and green hues of the peacock feather.
Today the water is still just as crystal clear as back then and runs abundantly all year round. This has enabled us to establish a salmon hatchery that has the ability to hold a large number of broodstock that we can carefully select from and the supply of millions of smolt to the New Zealand salmon industry all year round. With 24 hour security surveillance and extensive bird netting you can be sure that your stock will be secure at McLeans Island Salmon Hatchery.
We have also established a proven egg incubation and hatching system. Being fully closed from the elements the environment is controlled and we are consistently able to achieve +90% survivals from green egg to eyed stage and +85% survivals from eyed egg to fry stage. Continuously innovating we are in the process of automating all our feeding to complement regular hand feeding.
