Story

Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetu is the largest art institution in the South Island and home to one of New Zealand's most important public art collections.
Located in the heart of the city's Cultural Precinct, our Maori name, Te Puna o Waiwhetu, relates to the life-giving properties of the artesian spring on which the Gallery is built and our role in contributing to the cultural wellbeing of the community.

Great building exterior. Easy walking distance from city centre. Wheelchair friendly. Gift store & cafe. Numerous galleries. Helpful staff. I thought the air stuffy inside.

Something to experience about art. Not a giant art gallery, a quick peak in and out. If your lucky to be on time for the free guided tour, make the visit worthy. No entry fee. But a mindful donation is always great for keep a facility running

Great Flying Nun display certainly worth a look at and don't forget the gift shop for memorabilia

Constantly changing impressive collections of art work from all over the world.

Superb staff. Took 2 yr old who loved one experience so much we sat on the floor for over 20 minutes. Staff were so encouraging, really enjoyed that he was so engaged with art so early.

This is a gallery that acknowledges its history as a settler institution, and works to rectify that by showcasing works by indigenous artists. I'll keep coming back.

This is a good place to go if you understand art. Because I don't understand art. A crushed milk bottle that looks like a rock. !!!. What makes those painters a great painter when my kids can do the same thing. The place was very clean and spacious. Good service from the people who work there.
