Story

I kyrkorummet ryms omkring 700 personer.

This is one of the most amazing structures I have ever visited. Built in a period of between 10 and 18 months, it was erected to serve as a temporary site for the parishioners of Christchurch Cathedral, which was destroyed in the series of earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. Huge cardboard tubes serve as major structural elements, but rather than being ugly, they are quite beautiful in the overall aesthetic design. It is a building that must be seen in person; photographs simply don’t do it justice. Even though it was built to serve while the main cathedral is being rebuilt, this is a permanent structure that will continue serving the resilient people of Christchurch.
An interesting small cathedral. Entry is free of charge. Within walking distance from Christchurch CathedralVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Also known as the cardboard church. It is very pretty from the outside. Didn’t manage to go in as we arrived there after opening hours.
It is beautiful church made of cardboard by Japanese architect. Unique and strong. Learned from the past and move to forward.
This is worth stopping by. We viewed from outside only since it was during a Sunday mass. What a unique way they have set up to continue to gather as the cathedral is being rebuilt.
This building was erected quickly after the earthquake to allow worship to continue for congregations whose buildings were damaged. Locally known as the cardboard church. I attended a C of E service. It has become a tourist attraction in its own right.
Very cool church. The bits made out of cardboard are very impressive. Friendly, helpful staff .
It is the very unique, impressive and nice place to visit. It is also known as The cardboard Cathedral. It is designed by Japanese architect- Shigeru Ban used the Cardboard tubes, timber and steel. Volunteer lady, Margaret was very friendly and helpful. This is free entry and your are allowed to take photos inside. There is a gift shop inside the church. The only thing I would like to see is public car parking place onsite as currently there is no car parking spaces for visitors so you need to find the street parking nearby.
Wonderful building, a very interesting place to visit seeing how adaptable and resourceful the people are in adverse situations after the earthquake in 2011. The custodian Chaz was very friendly and informative. A wonderful hour spent there.
It is a good structure as a stopgap arrangement while the real one gets repaired. The staff does their best to explain about how cardboard has been used to give strength to the structure.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
