Cafe Au Bon Coin

Today I had a lovely coffee and the most wonderfully delicious pastry feijoia and almond I have ever tasted. The food is baked by the owners and is always super yummy. This cafe is one of the jewels of Beach Haven imho.

Coffee was great and the egg, smoked chicken and spinach wraps were to die for. Very friendly service. A couple of seats outside or park with some seating across the road.

Supporting Local! The Chocolate Caramel Slice and Almond Mocca from Au Bon Coin Cafe Patisserie were divine. Love all of their gluten free treats. A local place for local people giving a taste of a proper French Patisserie. Great choice of tarts and menu. Mushrooms on toast with a side of bacon is fantastic, although friends had French toast and that looked brilliant too.

My first time here and my goodness the custard and plum pastry was so incredible and fresh. They also make great coffee. Looking forward to trying more of their goodies.

My parents and their cronies are loyal patrons of Au Bon Coin; location of a second eucharist after Sunday matins and more secular sippage on weekdays. Their coffee orders - my mother likes her latte so dilute it would make most self respecting homeopaths blush for the inadequacy of their craft - my father on doctor's orders is now relegated to decaf' - are not so much known as scarred into the mind of she who makes the coffees. I, asking for a piccolo caused some bemusement and possible questions as to my parentage, but the order, as a whole, covering an entire spectrum of extraction was taken as a challenge and delivered with a studied exactitude and mostly quiet pride that marks a devoted aficionado of the Barista's art. The results were excellent. He, the Frenchman, is front of house, currently in a lockdown - very much so, delivering drinks and victuals to the window/door. On the subject of food, today an almond pastry was quite delicious, on a previous occasion a somewhat unprepossessing mushroom and egg filo was perhaps mostly so as it came straight out of the fridge; I was not offered it warmed but I dare say had I the presence of mind to ask it might have been so and much improved in the process. On one freeze block wall there is a laminated "Rogues Gallery" of local pooches posing doggily, so clearly a canine friendly establishment. This sense of locality is perhaps what I find most charming about ABC, its character somehow coterminous with the quirky charms of Beach Haven, this coin an integral part of the mosaic that makes up this community as a whole. I dare say I'll be back.

Part of me is reluctant to post this in fear that this hidden gem In Beach Haven might be exposed and all the seats in their sunny courtyard might fill up before we can get there. Our boys love going there for the delicious and generous French sweet treats notably the custard square. My wife and I enjoy the consistently exceptional dishes which includes Aucklands best scrambled eggs, a variety of amazing sausages and creamy mushrooms that will not disappoint. The owners are generous, hard working and well worth supporting!

Absolutely love the pastries and tarts, especially the almond and choc banana croissants! The owners are lovely as well, always saying hello to us when I zoom by with my two boys, when doing kindy drop.

Though the place seems a bit unloved, the food is far from it. Fantastic store made pastries, slices, cheesecakes, muffins and biscuits. During red traffic light, they are only doing takeaways. Chexk them out. Super local businesses
