About

Black Rock Home Brewing produces a high quality range of beer kits, cider kits and brewing malt extracts at the iconic Speight's Brewery in Dunedin, New Zealand, and distributes them around the world.

Story

Black Rock beers are batch brewed by skilled brewers using quality malt, hops and pure New Zealand water. Our brewers set out to make a fantastic beer with each of our recipes, using traditional brewing methods and stopping before fermentation. The wort then passes through our evaporators, is packaged, and ready for home brewers to add water and yeast to ferment at home.

At Black Rock we are passionate about beer, and helping our brewers to craft beers they want to drink and share.

Fantastic tour! Our tour guide was so much fun! Very informative and generous beer/cider tastings at the end. Loved it!
We booked a tour through the Brewery. Learned a lot about Speights beer and enjoyed a few delicious beer at the end of the tour.
The tour was perfect ended with beer tasting. Personal favourite will be gold medal ale, old dark and summit low carb.

Definitely interesting. Definitely good tastings. Would be great to hear the tour guide better without a mask being worn by her.
We went to Dunedin on 3 November, for a public address by a NASA astronaut at the Museum. Afterwards, we had dinner for four at the Ale House. Never again! At least, not at that time of the night. The place was packed and the noise must have registered on the Richter scale. One of our party arrived with a major headache which the tremendous racket only made worse, so we didn't linger after our meal was finished. On the plus-side, the meal was excellent; just like it has always been. We have been going to the Ale House for years, mainly for lunches, but two recent visits in the evening while having to endure a colossal background roar have seen us off. We have reached the stage in our lives when a pleasant dinner out doesn't include having to scream at each other because everyone else in the place is also screaming at each other. Five stars for the quality of the menu, but subtract two for the noise.
The brewery tour priced $22 for adult is totally value for money. Easy explanations and interesting facts with at least 3-4glass tasting section. What else can one want ???? some small bites may be.....just kidding.
The Speights brewery tour was amazing, thanks to Ken the tour guide and crew for a great time. I was also pleasantly surprised by the good quality merchandise at the store.
