We operate a Cellar Door for tastings and sales at our home on the vineyard in Cairnmuir Road, Bannockburn. Please refer to our website for opening hours.
We are Crawford and Catherine Brown. Though we employ seasonal contractors, we own and run Bannock Brae with the aid of our Chief Meeter and Greeter, Baxter the Golden Retriever.
Originally from Dunedin we often talked about our shared desire to ultimately live in Central Otago. In 1997, we noticed 8.5Ha of arid sheep paddock for sale in Bannockburn and opportunity beaconed. It took all of three days to decide to buy the block, the rest they say is history.
By 2006 the commute from Dunedin to Bannockburn was getting a little tedious so we built our home on the vineyard. This little slice of paradise has sweeping views over vines and beyond to the Pisa Range.
It is from this home that we operate our tasting room. We enjoy hosting visitors from all over the world, outside when weather permits, and our friendly dog Baxter particularly loves attention from the guests too.
Right from the beginning, when the bare land was bought in 1997, the partnership has maintained a philosophy of putting quality first, regardless of the cost, and regardless of how much that hurts! Although tough at times, the rewards of producing stunning wine overcomes the hardships and makes it all worth while!
Our wines include two award-winning Pinot noirs, a barrel-fermented dry Riesling, a Pinot noir Rosé and Grüner Veltliner.
