A baía de Curio é uma baía localizada perto de Slope Point, o ponto mais meridional da Ilha Sul da Nova Zelândia. A baía de Curio é conhecida pelo seu bosque petrificado de mais de 180 milhões de anos. Nela reside uma colónia de pinguins-de-olho-amarelo que é uma das maiores atrações da região denominada The Catlins, e é ainda local de residência de golfinhos-de-hector e baleias-francas-austrais.Os troncos petrificados, de antigas coníferas, relacionadas com as modernas agathis e araucárias, foram cobertos por cinzas vulcânicas que pouco a pouco foram sendo substituídas por sílica até produzir os fósseis que foram depois postos a descoberto pelo mar.Bibliografia Buckingham, R., e Hall-Jones, J. Beautiful beauty in her own context. Bit windy but this was furthered southern point than Bluff. Very peaceful and easy to get to.
This'll BLOW YOUR SENSES!! Seascapes UNBELIEVABLE!! Fish and Birdlife PROLIFIC!! You have to make a visit here a PRIORITY - believe me!!
Nice private campground and good beach area. Also good for surfing.
Breathtaking views!
We saw the rarest penguin of the world and a dolphin. It was a great experience. The waves were crushing and we got to get the right path on the stones to get to the sea. Wow!
Great place to go and see
Make sure you walk through the living forest saw Wood pigeon, Tui and fantail
