Excellent place to visit for rainy day - indoor activities. We visited the current exhibition-Egypt - in the time of Pharaohs. Very informative and unique displays. They have a gift shop which have good selections of souvenirs. The restaurant inside there is very good too. We enjoyed the visit.
Got be one of the best places to take your kids for some fun, history and culture. Hours of fun for them. Though these days I prefer to relax at the Cafe or out side while the older kids explore. That said I do visit the new displays and exhibits. The Greek one was fascinating.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure

The Auckland War Memorial Museum is a must-visit attraction that immerses you in Auckland's rich history. I had the pleasure of exploring it on a rainy afternoon and discovered that it's free for Auckland residents, creating a vibrant atmosphere even in gloomy weather. The museum beautifully showcases Maori culture, offering an insightful journey into their traditions and heritage. While tickets may be slightly pricey for foreigners, the experience is undoubtedly worthwhile. If you're a museum lover, allocate more than four hours to fully appreciate the extensive exhibits. Prepare to be captivated by the fascinating stories and immerse yourself in Auckland's vibrant past at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
One of the best museums I’ve ever been to. The name is a bit misleading as the non-war exhibits were the real standout for me. The Maroi displays were great as was the Auckland life expo and the NZ photos. Allow yourself 3-4hours to get around and a bit more to see the botanics and walk up the bloody hills to get there.
A wonderful museum and war memorial! Particularly enjoy all the amazing Māori and Pacific artifacts. What an amazing collection. I will definitely go back one more time before we leave New Zealand.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Absolutely awesome architecture. It's huge and certainly need 5-6hrs of your time to explore the entire museum. Staff were kind and helpful. There are many levels within the museum, dedicated to Māori culture and artifacts, exiting and extinct species, the natural history of New Zealand and the last level is reserved for the war memorial. They have exhibitions which are interactive and audio guides are available. Aucklanders get a free admission. Tickets are $28. The museum normally closes at 5.30 pm. There’s a cafe at the entrance and a museum shop of the left of the gate.
We had a few hours to kill before we had to head to the airport, and I wish we had more time here! Admission is FREE for Auckland residents and I believe there is a discount for New Zealand residents; international visitors have to pay but I was happy to do so and we got more than got our money's worth! Great place to spend the day and learn more about the history of Aotearoa and its people
I've visited this museum around 10+ years ago and on my visit today it felt like there was more to see before. Definitely lots of things changed, some exhibitions became computerised, which to me is a bit sad, but inevitable with time and progress. Other things were greatly improved and made the museum look awesome. I'd like to see more on level 1 the world, things that relate to New Zealand and over all hope that the museum will only get better with time.
World class. I took my daughter for a visit. We were both very impressed by all the exhibitions. New Zealand is a treasure chest of history, and it's beautifully displayed at Auckland War Memorial. Well done to all involved.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
