Auckland International Airport

Auckland Airport in New Zealand is a modern and efficient airport with state-of-the-art facilities and infrastructure. The new design is terrible - so many choke points for drop off and pick up is even worse. Now you need to walk five time further to get to taxis or Uber - and only half of the walk is covered. Too bad when it rains.nnI must have been asked by 3 different people where to go as everyone was confused. Anywhere else in the world would have multiple staff on the route providing directions - but not a single one here.nHaving been to 10 different airports in the world over the last six months - coming home to NZ is now the worst.

Generally, I like this airport as it was clean and organized. But for an international airport, it is not big enough. I believe it can still be expanded given the growing number of tourists in NZ. I do commend the authority for setting up free water refilling station to discourage people from buying bottled water.

Landing, entry control and and baggage claim normal. I was able to buy a suitable SIM card right afterwards - friendly and helpful advice.

One of my worst nightmare in the airport. The management of arrival clearance is so poor especially if you have to make declaration. They only open one line for all declaration with all passports while there are multiple lines for non declarations for NZ/AU passport even those lines were nearly empty. Be prepared to wait in the queue for more than hours or be prepared to dump the goodies you plan to declare to get out of the airport on time. Very disappointed that they don’t have a good plan at peak hours.
