Astoria

About

Perched on the edge of Midland Park, at the heart of Wellington’s shopping and business districts, Astoria offers a blend of grand European café culture and the quintessential bustle of Wellington city life.

Story

A celebrated atmosphere is fuelled by the café’s contribution to the popular park, particularly when the sun graces us with its presence.
On colder days, loyal clientele enjoy the cosy expanse of our vintage interior.

The menu is inspired by seasonal produce, paired with coffee roasted on-site.
Astoria has proudly served over 1000 customers daily, since 1996. The large space seats 150 (100 inside and 50 outdoors) offering a variety of perspectives, while ensuring one rarely waits for a table.

Our food is intended to nourish and indulge.
It is uncluttered and generous – familiar with flare. Vegetarian and gluten-free patrons
will not be disappointed and all produce is free-range where possible.

Breakfast includes time-honoured classics – some things are too good to meddle with.

The lunch menu is served throughout the afternoon and into the evening, with the addition of plates to share. Inspired by seasonal ingredients we make four menu changes during the year, though favourites remain due to popular demand.

Counter food is prepared on-site, including breads, cakes, biscuits and slices made daily by our Baker. All jams and preserves are also made in-house. The selection varies weekly; again with the exception of items our regulars suggest they can’t live without.

A number of notable, well-priced wines are also available by the glass.
Our drinks loyalty card is popular with locals.

Have been here a few time and had lunch here today and the place was very busy. Not a huge selection in the cabinet but there is a small menu as well. The service was excellent with very friendly staff. Great coffee. A little bit cluttered with lots of small tables and limited space but a great place to visit.
Great atmosphere, food and coffee were great. Close too town centre and shopping.
Excellent service and coffee. The full breakfast comes with top notch house made baked beans and a truly delicious sausage; my chief complaint is that there wasn't more sausages! The bacon is meat but a little dry, and the eggs need a touch longer in my opinion, but I greatly recommend this place.
Just not hitting the highs here anymore. Perhaps an off day as I know Astoria well. One of those comforting spaces to grab a great coffee and cake when the weather is somewhat glum. Perhaps a freshen up and lite refurb? I thought it was a bit tired looking. Friendly welcome as always, but I felt the vibe was missing.
Amazing coffee, nice food. Gr8 friendly staff. Only negative was there was a 45min way for food.
We really did enjoy our lunch we have always enjoyed our visits to Astoria so sorry it is closing
Very nice place. Busy but well looked after by the staff. The food was good, portions huge.
